I awoke on a low, yet comfortable bed. Everything around was dazzling white, and lit by a weird light. I could just make out a wide staircase leading up to a long balcony. A row of columns divided it from the room. At one end of the balcony steps cut into the cliff-face led downward. I descended, passing through some tall, dark, spire-like trees [poplars?] into gardens arranged on a series of terraces. A cool breeze carried the overpowering fragrance of flowers and shrubs. These cascaded in a ‘riot’ of colour down each terrace. I stood at the balustrade on the lowest level or tier. The view seemed strangely monochrome and muted, a stark contrast to the bright floral ‘rainbow’. An opaque/translucent sky with a pale ’halo’ of a Sun, as though seen through a thin mist. In its weak light the silvery ocean glittered like diamonds. I continued down the rock stairs to a small cove [or bay]. Its high rocky walls amplified the surf to a dull roar, which echoed around me. I ran some of the white sand through my fingers. It had a fine, silky texture. Here the dream ended. And there was no continuation….

Did you want the dream to continue? It sounds very mysterious. It seems that you have rather tactile dreams.
You have an eloquent way of writing by the way. You said that the room you were in was a "dazzling white." White often represents truth, joy, purity and innocence. Your dream could have been trying to bring a truth "into light," since you did mention a weird light. Stairs mean a lot of things in dreams...it really just depends on the dream I think. Seeing stairs that went up could mean that you saw a pathway that lead to something better in life, or something higher up. This could also possibly mean that there was something out of your reach that you wanted to obtain. The fact that you passed through dark trees and ended up in a colorful array of flowers in a garden could signify a life change. Say you were twisted into a 'dark' part of your life that you climbed your way out of. Once you were out of the repeating darkness you saw a variety of colors that "brightened" your world, or that added some flavor to your life. The fact that everything seemed monchrome after seeing the flowers could mean that things were not really as great as they appeared in real life, or that a certain part of your life was not as exciting as the garden. Seeing everything through a mist could mean that a certain part of your life seemed less clear than the rest, or like your life was not as good or as "clear" as someone elses. I'm at a bit of a loss with the sand bit... I'm sure you've probably thought of all that I've said...but I thought I'd just put in my two cents worth. Hopefully some of that was what you were possibly looking for in a reply! Question!: Are your dreams always that sensory? With the smells and textures of different objects? |

Thank you for your feedback. Your comments are greatly appreciated. My dreams do tend to be very visual and engage the senses. Especially sight and sound. And, sometimes, smell and touch.
I did indeed want the dream to continue. I was curious to know where it would lead. But, unfortunately, there was no follow-on. The light was ‘hazy’ and obscured things at first. But, once my eyes became used to it, details came into ‘focus’. I found it odd that most of the dream was in black and white, with silver and tones of grey. Yet the flowers were in garish colours. I just wish I knew more about flowers to have identified the types! Life can seem to be like that with its 'highs' and 'lows'. Excitements and disappointments. A bit like those stairs - both 'up' and 'down'. Sometimes things are 'clear'. Sometimes more 'opaque'. The cove seemed to cut things off. Beyond that was ocean as far as the eye could see. The sands running through my hands could signify 'things slipping away' - like time. Or 'slipping through your fingers' - like wasted chances. Regards, Cheers. Jon. ![]()
