Default Continuing Saga?

I'm less interested in the interpretation of this as I am in the idea of how common this is in others.

Every dream I've ever had is part of a larger, continuing saga.

I've never heard of this from anyone, and I've been interested in finding an answer for years now. I'm 17 years old, and I can remember these dreams and the events of them dating back to roughly age 2 or 3.

Basically, while most of the dreams have a purpose of their own, they are all part of something much larger. References are made to past "events," or hints to future events come almost every time.

The Locations remain largely the same, an odd, baren, drier version of my hometown. One of the parts of the larger chain of events is uncovering exactly what happened to the area (there has quite obviously been a disaster with the city square as an epicenter) while no one else is aware of this.

Most of my dreams are semi-lucid (realize I'm dreaming, but go along with the dream) and I have had about 5 nightmares in my entire life, only. I've had dreams which stray from the main course of my dreams, but there is usually some connection to the overall story.

But... how common is an overlaying theme/story/saga/mystery in dreams, especially for such a long time? Is this common, or rare? Is there a name for this?

Dreams mostly reflect what is happening in the dreamer's life so the concept of a saga is reasonable. To recognise the connection between dreams demands a degree of objectivity, as far as this is achievable, about oneself, and hence the reason why this feature seldom arises in discussion. The width of the canvas of the dreamscape depends largely on the width of one's life experiences and expectations. There may exist some academic jargon that provides this feature with a name but as an amatuer enthusiast I am unaware of one. Whenever you do your PhD dissertation you might be able to coin one.
