Question The Skull, Rose, and Smoking Gun.

This is a dream I had a couple of nights ago. I was in a room, by the looks of it a Study. The lower walls were panelled. The upper walls white-washed. Two walls had bookcases, but I didn’t check out the titles. I was more drawn to:

* The locked door, with no key on the inside.

* A large wooden desk with a high-backed leather-upholstered chair. On the desk was :-

An ashtray with one smouldering cigarette; a skull with a single red rose by it. A disconnected telephone.

*The fireplace opposite the desk. There were cooling ashes, and a charred scrap of paper. Only readable text: ‘VI’ and ‘814’ on it.

* The rug between the desk and fireplace. On it was :-

A smoking pistol.

A broken pearl necklace.

And a book with a torn out page. [The title was ‘The Broken Mirror’. It was a novel by an A. Cartwright. There was a mirror over the fireplace, but it was intact] Was paper from that book?

* The open French Windows into the garden. Curtains billowed in the breeze.

What does it mean? Cheers, Jon

Hm, it seems to me that you may feel secluded or disconnected from the world; you may also feel trapped or restricted in a specific situation, as there's no key to the room you are in and the phone has been disconnected, both which denote being confined to an area.

The way you describe the room makes it seem as though it is an office or a den, so perhaps you feel that you are being over worked. You may feel stressed. The fact that the fireplace was not actually burning, but there were hot coals in the fireplace symbolizes that you are possibly running low on energy. Fire generally denotes energy, but yours isn't burning so you've possibly over-worked yourself. I think that the cigarette means close to the same thing as the fireplace; your energy is just "burning out," so to speak. Ashtrays also, often refer to relationships, so perhaps there is a strain in a relationship you're having with someone. The red rose is also indicative of a relationship.

First, the torn page is representative that you may be on the rebound of a broken relationship. The number 6 is often associated with warm feelings of love, contentment, and family. For the 814, the only way around that number that I know of is to add the numbers 8 + 1 + 4, which equals 13. The number 13 represents a change or symbolizes a goal that you must work hard at in order to be successful. Also, this number is also a connotation of superstition, thus it may represent obstacles that are or will be standing in your way to keep you from your goal.

A gun can hold two different meanings, either aggression/authority or a males sexual drive and is associated with the penis. It suggests power.

Pearls symbolize purity and the soul. The broken pearl necklace means that your brain is fighting your heart in a relationship and you need to use your gut instinct.

A skull suggests that you may be keeping secrets and guilt is keeping this on your mind constantly. On the other hand, it may represent danger.

A mirror refers to a persons identity or persona; how they see themselves. "Broken Mirror" is indicative that you may be breaking away from an old image of yourself or you are possibly trying to break an old habit. (if you smoked maybe you want to quit or have people who want you to quit)

I find it interesting that the window is the last thing you mention and perhaps the last thing you noticed from this dream that stood out to you. The fact that they are open is positive as the door is locked and the phone disconnected; that window is the only thing that does not keep you confined and represents insight and possibilities. Perhaps you have been close-minded and now you're finally trying to broaden your views.

Thumbs up

Thanks for your fascinating insight, elected.rejected. The disconnected phone and locked door: I am in a job that is starting to get me down because there’s too much happening once. A lot of the time I feel like I’m not being given the ‘full picture’ on what’s going on. A lack of data. And too many people involved, all with their own ideas and ‘agendas’. ’Messages’ are often ’mixed’, or conflict with one another, and lead to confusion. And the paperwork…. I note the desk was clear of that - wishful thinking? But maybe the door was locked and the phone disconnected to keep the bustle of the outside world at bay - peace and quiet. Were the French Doors the only way out? They led into a garden....

Yet, the cigarette was burning out, while the fire had already. The gun was ’smoking’ - I often have to bite my tongue, or ‘keep a lid’ on my temper [I have a hot one.] All these things had been ‘fired up’ at some point, Maybe the ‘damage’ had already been done. The ’crime committed’. Hence the broken necklace. But where was the body?

A broken mirror can be shattered hopes and dreams. Or maybe illusions. Or bad luck. But appearances can be deceptive - the ‘real mirror’ was whole. The book seemed to be a ‘work of fiction’. Or could things have been the other way round? I didn’t read that novel. Maybe there was a similar room in it, but somehow different. Like a ‘parallel world’….

The skull and rose. A 'dead' romance? Was that why the necklace was broken? The 'beauty' had gone. My head usually 'rules' my heart on things. But my romantic life is OK at the moment....

The numbers and letters are puzzling. Could be the Unlucky 13 [back to that novel]. But I had to guess at those, since the paper was badly burnt. They could've also been a damged 'WI' or 'WH' or 'WE'. The numbers actually 'BI4' or 'BIH'? Part of a name, an address, who knows....

Thanks again, cheers. Jon
