Default Greek gods and sniper rifles.

About 2 nights ago i had a really vivid dream where i was walking up the steps of the parthenon (a big, very old building in greece, if you dont know) there was water cascading down all the steps. I go inside and open up a stone crypt, where this extreemly attractive women steps out telling me she is a god of something and asks me to follow her. I follow her to a large grassy hill overlooking a street below where crowds are cheering as an open top car drives past. The women hands me a rifle and tells me to kill the person in the car, i remember thinking\saying something like "just another talentless celebrity, who doesnt deserve this" (refering to the crowds) and lift the gun up to shoot, but wake before i do.
I understand if this gets no replies as i can't see any way to interpret it. Just posted it cause it was quite weird, much more vivid than usual, and i remember it in perfect detail 2 days later which i dont usually.
Thanks.

Default Re: Visitation by a god

Hi MT

The ancient Greeks believed that the gods would visit them in dreams, sometimes as themselves and sometimes, in guise, in another form.

If you go on line and type in Athene and Parthenon you will discover this temple was built to house the Chryselephantine statue of Athene. The creation of this statue is fascinating and likewise the temple in its rebuilding after it was sacked and destroyed by the Persians while under construction the first time around. Also the cost to build it was unbelieveable. All this to say this goddess meant alot to folk. Since the statue was gigantic the pool of water placed within the temple south was also vast. The rest of the temple space is small in comparison. There is as well a story of her competition with Poseidon for the loyalty of the citizens. P is the god of the watery realm. P stood down when the majority of Athenians cast their vote for A. The temple waters are hers. These waters carry a combination of two powers central to her, a goddess in whom power and wisdom are harmoniously blended.

I did go on line to see what A may have had to say in your dream. Here is some of what I found. These paragraphs are taken from theoi.com in direct quote...

From this fundamental idea may be derived the various aspects under which she appears. She seems to have been a divinity of a purely ethical character, and not the representative of any particular physical power manifested in nature; her power and wisdom appear in her being the protectress and preserver of the state and of social institutions. Everything, therefore, which gives to the state strength and prosperity, such as agriculture, inventions, and industry, as well as everything which preserves and protects it from injurious influence from without, such as the defence of the walls, fortresses, and harbours, is under her immediate care.

As the patron divinity of the state, she was at Athens the protectress of the phratries and houses which formed the basis of the state. She also maintained the authority of the law, and justice, and order, in the courts and the assembly of the people. This notion was as ancient as the Homeric poems, in which she is described as assisting Odysseus against the lawless conduct of the suitors. (Od. xiii. 394.)

According to Homer (Il. v. 736, &c.), she does not bear arms, but borrows them from Zeus; she keeps men from slaughter when prudence demands it (Il. i. 199, &c.), and repels Ares's savage love of war, and conquers him. (v. 840, &c., xxi. 406.) She does not love war for its own sake, but simply on account of the advantages which the state gains in engaging in it

Given this knowledge Athene gave you a weapon of Zeus. The automatic rifle is a thunderbolt of Zeus. It does not kill it transforms. It is a weapon of enlightenment. A was testing your loyalty to her i.e. she was checking out your ethical character to see what kind of public servant you will make. However you are thinking these days keep in mind public servants are heroes of the people through their ability to maintain "wise" counsel.

Having lived a long while, MT I cannot help notice the similarity in your dream to the grassy knoll story told in the assassination story of President Kennedy which also preceded the war with Vietnam. As I was a young one during these days I still recall K's most inspiring speech to our generation that led many of us to national service by joining the peace corp. It was something new in those days. Kennedy suggested to us, "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."

Many Blessings,
mythopoet

As the poet says yor dream does draw on the Kenedy Shooting. You probably watched it on a newsreal or read about it somewhere. Sometimes dreams weave together experiences of the past that could have happened meny years apart.
The purpose of the dream is to wake you from sleep. You might be experiencing some physical or mental discomfort. The dream creates an impressive scenery with water, marble and godesses to make you take notice, and does the waking by instructing you to do something that would be against your will.
Cheers Wolfjk

Thanks for the replies. That first one is probably the most interesting and educational reply i've recieved on any forum , can't believe the greeks had a god who "preserves the state and social institutions".
Now you've mentioned it, yes the street with the car was a replica of the JFK assasination (cant believe i didn't notice it b4) although the hill was more like the side of a mountain than a 'grassy knoll'. Don't worry though i've no plans to go after the current president, as much as he does tempt me to .
Little bit freaked out by the fact that the parthenon IS a temple, i'd always assumed it was a palace of some sort, and also housed not only a female god but a big pool of water. Anyway thanks 4 the replies.

Default Re: Believe It!

Hi MT!

You are so very welcome!

Yes, believe it, the Greeks had such a goddess and also in a sense do we since we have inherited from the Greeks ideas that form, along with the Judeo-Christian socio-religous mythoshpere, the foundation for our western rational life.

Thank you for sharing your dream on line.

Many blessings,
mythopoet

Well when you get a dream it may relate to real life but you may need to use a process of association to interpret it. Simply try to associate any of the dream symbols with real life. Look through possible symbolic meanings and try to build up a picture of which could possibly mean by matching them to real life events and occurrences at the time of the dream.

One possible association that I make is with the assassination of JFK. That was reputed to have occurred according to some people behind a grassy hill. It occurred in an open top car. Try to think of any association you can make to that. To politicians or people who behave in a celebrity type way and seem over important perhaps.

Also the gun symbolizes anger or dislike or simple criticism in some way. Try to associate that with real life. What sorts of anger or criticism could you pinpoint and how would you have wanted to TARGET someone on the day before.

Did you read or watch any political speeches or did any one act in a 'JFK' type way the day before?

------------------------
Often one symbol in a dream will seemingly have no relationship to any other. Totally bizarre things happen and there seems to be no sense to the dreams meaning. Thats because some symbols have a very cryptic meaning. A parachute may simply express the need to escape from a very difficult relationship. The need to land safely is a direct comparison to the need to land safely in an emotional sense. Yet within the context of the dream it makes no sense. It seems confusing and funny when we describe a moment when our granny gets hit by a parachutist. But dreams are like that. One portion of the dream makes no real sense within the story of the dream. Yet its meaning is there. The trick is to weave together various symbols. So see how that parachutist links within your own real life thoughts. So if you woke up that morning and felt "Yesterday I started to realise that I need to get out of my relationship with my boyfriend. He is being totally abusive. Right now I just need to escape with as little fuss as possible". Its likely that this dream about a parachutist is directly linked to those real life thoughts. Then start to piece together a wider meaning to the dream. Look at the possible symbolic meanings to the other symbols and try to see what the dream is saying overall.
