meeting people in dreams

Hiya, I am new to this all but have had many dreams which have re-occurred or been added to on every new occasion I have dreamt them. The one that is really strange is that, I met a girl in a dream whom I recognise but have never met in real-life. Over the course of the past few months I have dreamt about meeting her (and even her boyfriend now) and we are friends, however, I have never really got to know who this person is or what this represents as something always happens to stop my dream. Last time we were sitting in a cafe and gun shots were fired in the street outside which ended it all. I feel ever so strange when I wake up after these dreams as I never have got to actually speak to this person even though we sit are around one another in my dreams...

Could this dream have anything to do with a girl I met whilst on holiday 6 years ago who told me we'd met before and I was sure I had met her, however, we'd never been to each other's areas in the country / known any people mutually etc. My boyfriend and hers at the time were really confused by it too!

I don't know if this dream is deja vu. It doesn't seem to be the same person I met 6 years ago. And is deja vu the other way around, you dream then do something you believe you've done before?
I live in Berkshire, UK. I am female.
I discussed this dream with my boyfriend who I have told in a lot more detail which maybe I should have added; each time I have the dream it carries on from the last as if a story, I cannot speak to the girl although I am always with her doing things, such as going to a cafe etc. The girl in the dream always speaks to my boyfriend and her boyfriend and I can speak to them yet when I try to speak to her I cannot, and she does not converse with me.

My boyfriend suggested I may be feeling insecure (we have a long distance relationship of 200 miles) could this be the reason??

It has started to bug me more and more each day and I kind of cannot wait until I have the dream again to see if she will speak to me - is it my sub concious telling me something?

The background picture may help explain more; I moved to where my boyfriend is 6 months ago and never really got involved there and had to move 'home' as I couldn't get work.

Perhaps your boyfriend is right when he says you're insecure. Your dreams are waking dreams. You feel disappointed that you could'nt get on and make friends where your boyfriend lives and your subconscious uses your feelings to wake you.
Another possibility is that perhaps you are secretly drawn to female company but are trying to repress the feelings. That may be the reason you can't communicate with your dream girl.
However, only you can tell how you feel about the situation. Is there any reason you can't strike up a friendship with a boy in your area? Do you subconsciously try to keep males at arms length?

I have many male friends but due to a couple of failed relationships, I suppose I do try to not get too close. I believe my boyfriend now is the only male I can have a relationship with as we know one another very well. So, yes keeping men at arms length is a possible cause...
I don't have many female friends (probably one or two) as I do not seem to interact as well with women.
