Default Sick Dog and a Cougar

My wife and I were walking in a forest that had dense green undergrowth. Suddenly without warning a large black dog ran out in front of me. It had many sores and looked like sutures where someone had done crude surgery on it, but didnÂ’t take the time to close the openings properly. I could see that it was in misery and I wanted to capture it so that I could take it to a vet so that it could receive proper medical care. While I was looking for it a cougar came around me. It didnÂ’t threaten me, but I was afraid that it would hunt and kill the dog. However, it walked with me and helped me to find the dog. Then I woke up.
Any help here is appreciated.

Hi Smity,
I think you know what a dog means , and I know you know what a mountain lion means .
But I can't guess what the sutures on its body were.
And I can't guess the story.
Excuse me too delicate for me.
Good luck.

ItÂ’s important to learn some key lesson or message form the dream. Often in stories there is a moral and itÂ’s the same thing in dreams. There is some underlying message. Perhaps here the emphasis is on the need for something to receive the proper care and attention it deserves. It maybe something to do with you and your wife or any relationship. In what ways do you feel that strong urge as in the dream?
-----------------------------
The dream mind is a conceptual mind. So expect the meaning of a dream to be a conceptual meaning. Try to think about the ideas and emotions that are forming in your mind. Dreams can be about health issues, they can be about relationships, they can simply reflect some paranoias in your mind. Simply put dreams are about the STUFF in your mind. So instead of trying to interpret the dream try to think about ideas forming in your mind.

Whats more dreams concentrate on new feelings. They capture those moments when your feelings change. For instance the moment when you started to mistrust your boyfriend. Try this page as it shows you how to spot the issues which trigger dreams

Hi Uncle and Varzandeh,

After thinking about this dream, I believe that those wounds were actually ulcers on the dog. My wife has had another bout with colitis recently (inflammation of the wall inside her colon, but thankfully no ulcers this time). I relate the disappearing dog to the fact that the doctors cannot find the cause of this. (disappearing into the underbrush). However, I'm not sure the role that the cougar played, but it was a healthy one.

Thanks,

Smitty

Actually I have made a study of dogs and it seems that they link to several things. They can symbolize faithful friends and things like that (a dog is mans best friend). But one meaning may link to health. If a fierce dog is in the dream it may symbolize ill health at present. In that sense itÂ’s like a dream about faith in the future. ItÂ’s quite abstract. But I think you are right to link the dream to this issue. But I see it linking more to the current state of your feelings. It probably does not refer to the future.

The cougar. Well I am not sure what cats generally mean. But they can see in the dark and I often see cats as symbolic of the need to see into the future. So this dream maybe shows you thinking and worrying about the future and really wanting to know what the future will hold.

------------------------
Nightmares have the ability to really frighten us. Thats because they contain weird and supernatural dream symbols such as demons and monsters. The forces that we fight against seem all too powerful. But really many nightmares are sourced right in the here and now. They symbolize our day to day traumas and difficulties. Many simply reflect on the previous day. Perhaps you simply took one risk too many? Perhaps you acted in a nasty and malicious way and your dream is alerting you to this.

Many nightmares will not mention anything that can remotely link to real life in any meaningful way. But the link to reality is there. Really the best way to see nightmares is simply ask your self what real life situations are drifting into some nightmare scenario? What relationship is becoming a real problem? If you look up nightmare in the dictionary its definition is probably more down to earth than dreams would have us believe. A nightmare is really just a very big problem. In real life we get problems all the time and sometimes they get out of hand.

Hi Uncle,

Thanks for your reply. I began thinking about the dog again in this dream. Perhaps its a play on words like being "dogged" or bothered with something. So she is being dogged with poor health. Right now, the only thing that I associate the cougar with in this instance is a "predator". Predators whether they are cougars(lions), wolves, bears, etc. will go after either the very young, old, or sick. Thanks again for your reply and insight.

How right you are. Of course the cougar symbolizes the predator that seeks out the sick. Having read the dream again my interpretation of the dog must change. I just tend to skim read things and often make mistakes. The dog is symbolic of your wife. She is injured and you feel the need to help her (like in the dream).

Perhaps the cougar also symbolizes your wife. She is perhaps fierce in her temper and irritable when ill. ThatÂ’s just one theory. Of course she may be very good tempered when ill - I have no way of telling.

------------------------
Often we may warn children not to play with matches. Well the same can be said of adults who try to interpret their dreams. If they do not know what they are doing then it maybe very dangerous. Its very easy to misread a dream. In some ways its best not to expect too much from your dreams as they can be very complicated and difficult to read. Many symbols have personal meanings. Try waiting until something big happens in your life. For instance if something happened the day before such as a very major argument. Then try to see how the dream symbols can work. If the previous day was bad then try looking for bad symbols. Thats the way to really see how your dreams work. It may not work every time but eventually you will start to understand some symbols. Its understandable how we get caught up in dreams. Yet many seemingly scary dreams will not be premonitions. They may simple point to something eerie or scarey from the previous day.

These pages are especially helpful in showing you how to interpret dreams
