Default quest dreaming?

Hey all,

Im new here (hi).
For a little background I have been slowly researching dreams by myself for the past couple of years, as I just began to realize that I have a more active dream life than most of my friends (like lucid dreaming and prophetic dreams)

And while I think I can understand most of my dreams with just gut intuition about the "feeling" of the dream, or a little help on symbolism from the internet I have become stumped on one aspect of my dreams:

Since I was a child the majority of my dreams include a sort of quest or mystery or problem that I must solve, and while I can never really remember the end goal, and it doesnt seem important, the completion of a task is imperative in the dream.

So I thought I would write and sign up for some feedback on this constant dream theme I have, do lots of people have this? I realize it could just be an aspect of my personality...but I feel it might be more significant than me being an inquisitive person who likes to be in control of situations.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Default Quest

Hi Isobel,

The main purpose of this dream is to wake you in the morning. Parhaps you are always striving for something and in that sence it is a personal type of dream. Your subconscious is using your quest for achievement as a waking agent.
Cheers Wolfjk

NO

I pretty much think its just linked to your personaility. Yet try to think of exact ways in which you are engaging your own brain and trying to search out and find some deeper meaning and solution. Think of ways like (and lets explore some current theme)

"I am increasingly starting to think that my dreams contain a common theme. I really want to know if this is true."(and if that particular thought did really engage your mind then its possible that this was the dreams significance. If not then look for some other current quest that has been really engaging your mind).

Dreams contain general meanings and do point to our general personalities. But they will often alos point to our personalities and current examples in which we are gaining insights into our own pysche.

But much of the knack of understanding dreams is simply linking your dream to current thinking. If you get a dream about a snake then try to make it fit some real life theme that fits to a snakes symbolic meaning. You may not always succeed. Sometimes the dreams significance will be so hidden in complex symbolism that you may not understand it.

But if you go with your own gut feeling then you will gain many insights. The dream mind is the intuitive mind. They are intimately linked

-----------------------------
Well dreams are very much linked with our thoughts. In fact dreams link to every aspect of our thinking. Think in particular of fantasies that have preoccupied you. Your dream may relate to something big about to happen tommorrow. If the dream seems to reflect your own fantasies then its likely that thats exactly what the dream is about. Dreams bring to life the reality of our imagination. If you fear something terrible is about to happen then your dreams(like your paranoias and fantasies) will reflect these. Generally a positive dream with lots of action may reflect how you feel about things right now.
