Death of relative and yucky green soup ritual!

I was in the living room with my Mum, Dad, sister, Grandad and Great Nana . We were all eating an absolutely disgusting looking green soup. Our family did this every year as some kind of ritual. Nana Doris said that this year, we were going to eat the soup for my Nana too, she had died in the year. In real life my Nana isn't dead!

What could this mean? :?
