Default My sons sea monster dream

This is not my dream but I am wondering what it may mean. My oldest son woke up and told me his dream this morning, this is how he told me.
"I was in the ocean on a boat with my uncle when I saw something in the water, it was a sea monster so I went into the water and swam to the shore so the monster would follow. The sea monster followed me and when it came to the shore it burned up because it was not in the water anymore." I asked him what it looked like, He also told me the sea monster had fins and a thing on the back like a shark and he was not afraid. Any Ideas? He is in grade school. Thank you. Lizzy

Hi,
Dreams of immatured boys refers to their father so the interpretation is for his father.
Being in an ocean means working for the government.
Being in a boat means doing a dangerous job.
There will be a big man at his job and he will resign for a while to get free from the big man or something like that.
Good luck.

Hi Lizzy

Well how old is your son? Grade school means nothing to me as I am from the UK.

Anyway boats tend to link tpo moments when we are on an emotional journey. The monster dshows that this dream is about exploring an emotional journey which is out of control and scarey. Actually an emotional journey in this sense could be summed up by the following sentence...."my uncle was telling me stories which I was really getting into"

The monster element of this shows that hius uncle was perhaps telling him some scarey things. But of course the dream may not be about the uncle at all.

-----------------------------
Sometimes is worth just ignoring all symbols. Then just strip down the dream to the emotions within it. So when a hostage appears in your dream then ignore the hostage and simply look at the emotions of the dream. A hostage dream may simply confuse you. We link hostages to politics and to major traumatic events. Yet simply put a hostage dream simply captures a simple emotion. You are being forced into doing something that you do not want to do. Thats it! So look at the ways in which you feel compelled to behave in a certain way. Do you feel pressure from a loved one?

unclesirbobbyrobson, My son is 7 he was just spending time with his uncle a few days before and he just loves his uncle they spend lots of time playing adventure games together. so it could be just that, maybe his imagination was just still active from the days before. He just took him out and bought the kids toy swords and they were playing active games together. He loves to play games like this and he is not afraid. He was not even afraid when telling me this dream. Like he enjoys the outsmarting and has fun talking about conquering the monster! Know what I mean?Lizzy

well yes that kind of makeas sense. it sounds like a young boys dream. The feeling that he lkikes taking on the monster shows that he enjoys the relationship with his uncle. He enjoys that sense of taking on some unidentified foe. That its himn amnd his uncle against the world

Many dream dictionaries tend to share a common mistake. They tend to use symbols in only one uniform sense. They will begin each definition with the phrase "You need to be more ..."(for instance the Army in dreams means that you need to be more disciplined). This is a fiundemental mistake. Dreams use symbols in rich and varied ways. You should realise that dreams can use dream symbols in the past context, the present context and the future context. They can refer to you and your own emotions but if they choose to they will concentrate on other people and issues surrounding them. Try this page for a further explanation.

I think you hit this on the head,

This is very true if we look at this dream of my sons in the terms of a dream dictionary we may not get a clear answer but by talking about it and pondering different ideas we were able to come with up with an answer that individually fit the circumstance. Your interpretation was very much on. Thank you for helping me learn about all of this. I find your knowledge wonderful! Lizzy

HI Lizzy

Yes I think the answer does fit. Its actually a straight forward explanation. I try to think of dreams in terms of brain functions. They show our thought processes. This dream probably has a slightly deeper meaning. Your son was very much being guided when his uncle was around. the dream occured after his uncle left. To me the dream links to his own need to recreate the feelings and emotions that he had whilst with his uncle. He wants to recreate that sense of adventure. But he has to do this on his own and has to initiiate this rather than before when his uncle led the way. So your son is responding to his own need to get that sense of adventure going.

------------------------
It is almost impossible to interpret someone else's dream. Dream use symbols many of which have a personal meaning. A particular symbol may have many varied meanings some of which are positive and some of which are negative. Take for instance a soldier whose appearance in a dream may symbolise a need for discipline. But it is confusing because that soldier may link to you and your situation but it may also be about someone else's need for discipline. It may also be a dream about events that have just passed but equally it is possible that the dream will refer to a need for discipline in some new situation. There are so many possibilities a dream interpretation can become meaningless and vague. Yet there is often a very clear message coming through. Yet the dream interpreter cannot make the connections tat the dreamer can make. It is impossible to know what happened to the dreamer the day before or to know what issues have been on the dreamers mind. Its impossible to know fully of the dreamers past. A dream interpretation is at best a guess.

But one helpful tip is to see symbols as words. The soldier stands for discipline. Try to see how that word featured in the events of the previous day. Think about the day to come and how that word features in your mindset right now. What long term issues feature the theme of discipline. Try to establish any connection whatever. Its a matter of building up clues.
