Default A few questions about understanding dreams

I have a few general questions about dreams that I hope someone can help me with.

1) It seems to me that my dreams often take me to church or my parent's home. I wonder if others' dreams often take them to the same setting but with a totally different dream? and why is this?

2) I don't know what the real name for this is but I call them "cluster dreams" where I sometimes dream 3-4 totally different dreams going on at the same time. I genrally don't even try to figure these out because they are too complex and time consuming to even start writing them down much less thinking about. What are these "cluster dreams" and why do we have them rather than just one dream at a time?

3) Many people have short, too the point dreams, but I can't recall ever having a dream like this. Mine seem to always be long and detailed. Why do some people have succinct dreams and others long ones?

Thank you for any replies.

Well

1. CHURCHES : You have had a lot of church dreams. Thats maybe because you remember these types of important dreams. Generally the more important issues the more you are likely to dream about them

2 DREAMS NOT REMEMBERED : Dreams reflect the things going o in your mind. Often I simply forget many dreams and thats because they may occur at times when nothing much is going on in my life. It maybe the case with you. Dreams reflect big issues and intuitions. If there is nothing much new in your emotions and feelings then the dreams will happen but they will be insignificant.

3. You have long dreams. Rougfhly there are two types of dreams. Firstly dreams which are largely emotional and these will seem to have a storyline that seems to make some kind of sense(the emotions seem more important). These dreams reflect moments inj real life when we have been having strong feelings. Shorter and bizzare dreams can be very abvstract and dela with abstract conceptual feelings. They will often have bizzare imagery

a--------------------------------------------------
The obvious link between the brain and dreams is often forgotten. Dreams are part of how the dream mind and the unconscious construct thoughts. Each of the symbols and strong emotions are linked to reality. So think of the exact thoughts that are dominating your waking mind thats probably what the dreams are about. We dream about things that are preoccupying our minds.

Very interesting. Thank you for answering my questions. I think I can safely say I must be an emotional dreamer! However, you said there are 2 types of dreams. I wonder if you limit it to just 2 types or if you also believe in supernatural types of dreams as well. For instance, once my sister and I dreamed the exact same dream at the exact same time. My mother used to dream when people died, even normal healthy people that no one would expect to die. She would just sit up in bed and say "so and so just died" and sure enough the next day we would get a telephone call. I have also had dreams of things that happened in my dream and they really happened in real life. These dreams are very different than regular dreams that are a mystery to me. The few dreams that I have had that really happened are so real that when I wake up, I know they are real and they are no mystery at all. Do you believe in such dreams?

well I first started to be interested in dreams with psychic dreams. I had a dream on the day before Princess Diana of the British royal family died. It was symbolic but it led me to believe something truly terrible was about to happen.

By the end of the day nothing actually did happen. But just s I was probably falling to sleep she was killed in car crash. The following week was just mahem in the UK. The country virtually stopped and evceryone(inclusding me) was overcome with emotions. I think its because it was such a shock and so young.

The full dream is on this page

also you mention telepathy dreams

http://www.geocities.com/hairybobby2000/dreamtelep.html

Lets put this in perspective. The modern astropsysisists(i will have to learn how to spell that word) believe that there are 8-11 dimensions to the universe. Psychics believe that we can see things before they happen

Also I would say that the most learned people on the subject of dreams tend to believe in premonitions. Jung did and notes a few down. Freud did not(but I do not mind about that as I did not really ever respect him as a dream interpretor)

Artemedorious and the ancient dream interpretors all believe in premonitions. BTW what is the time span of your premonitions. Do they come true often on the dayof the dream

You mention the church dreams. Maybe you do not get that many church dreams. But you just remeber church dreams because they tend to be more likely to be important dreams. You are more likely to remember dreams at important times. Many dreams occur at times when you have no real intuitional thoughts. You may have inconclusive thoughts that do not really mean anything. For instance you may come to the following conclusion "well I think I still trust my neighbour to look after my son". That dream does not mark a change in your thinking. But if you had the dream when you thought "actually I do not trtust my neighbour any more to look after my son" then that dream would mark a change in your thinking. Therefor its an important dream whihc you are more likely to remember

Thats why I do not like dreams that are incubated. Deciding to have a dream on a subject often produces bad results. I have done this and had frustrating dreams which have been difficult to decode. They even seem to include a sense of insult to them. I am after all asking my brain to answer such and such a question and the message seems to be coming back "Why are you bothering me with this meaningless question. Go away"

Dreams tend to home in on important pivotal moments in our thinking when we actually change our opinions.

But also important is to understand the proces of dreams. Dreams will tend to concentate on the previous day a lot. They process through all the info and start to move it from short term memory banks into long term memory banks. Then once that is finished they will start to intergrate new thoughts and emotions into long term memory banks. So in effect your emotions are updated only when you have slept on a matter. So thats why its important to sleep on an issue before coming to some hasty decision.

Moping back to the subject of premonitions. I have tended to lose interest in these though I still believ in them. After all when you have seen one premonition you have seen them all. You have a premonition and it comes true. I never truly believe a premonition or shared dream as people can lie and exxagerate so you always have a sense of doubt.

I am interested in ordinary day to day dreams.

------------------------
By the end of the day we are tired and exhausted. Thats generally because of how the mind is organised. We store up memories in short term memory blocks. Its only at night that we start to work through what has just happened the previous day. We reform our emotions and transfer the important bits iof information into long term memory. Then we clear the short term memory blocks ready for the day ahead and the whole process starts again. So obviously there is a strong connection between the previous day and dreams. Look for the thoughts dominating your previous day. They will probably link to your dream.
