Trying to Protect a Black Rabbit

I was in the kitchen with my wife. There was a small black rabbit on the floor hopping around, but we had a black cat inside the house to. The cat was stalking the rabbit and when I tried to hold the cat, it kept hissing at me and trying to claw me. I told her to put the rabbit back in its cage but she wouldnÂ’t listen to me. Instead she kept talking cheerfully like nothing was happening. Finally, it got impossible for me to hold the cat, but I wanted to protect the rabbit. The cat tried to bite me so I put my hand around its throat and was choking it even though I didnÂ’t want to. My wife was still oblivious to what was happening.
Any help or interpretations are always welcomed.

I am far from expert at this but it seems to me you have important concerns that you feel your wife or the system is uninterested in. Black is known as an ominous or sorrowful color. This is an interesting dream to me. Could the rabbit represent a student or students of yours that you feel concern for? The cat, I wonder, represents the threatening aspects in their lives. You are hesitant to interfere as much as you feel is necessary because of restrictions placed on that sort of thing. I'd say the black rabbit is innocence and vulnerability.
