Dream: Black cat biting me?

Can someone please help me interpret this dream I had last night?

I work at an animal shelter and in my dream I was there. I was in the room where they have all the dog and cat food. And for some reason there was a cat hanging out under one of the shelves and I saw him stick his paw out to play. So, I bent down and looked under to pet him. As soon as I stuck my hand under there he jumped out and attacked my other hand. I panicked and tried shaking him off, but he wouldn't let go. So, I grabbed him by the neck/head and got him off. When I pulled him off there was no blood (but I remember mentioning something in my dream about cleaning up my hand). There was a wound on my hand between my thumb and pointer finger (there was a little hole on both sides of my hand).

But, when I got him off I brought him over to my supervisor because I was afraid to let go of him. So, she injected him with a sedation and then I think she put him down.

In my dream, I said, "I can't believe this is the second time this happened to me, with a black cat, again, too!" And this is my second time having this dream, now, too.

Any ideas about what this means?

If you work with animals, you bound to dream about them sometimes. You probably had some pain in your hand while you slept - cramp or some joint pain. Your dream tries to ease or get rid of the pain by making you move your hands. That is what you would do in waking life if you had a cram.
On the psychological side, you are apprehensive about handling cats.

I don't remember any hand pain while I was sleeping, however I am a little apprehensive handling cats. I have my own cat that I love. I am ok with petting them and holding them, but I have a hard time trusting them... I am more of a dog person.

I don't understand why I would have a dream about something I already know I am a little afraid of.

Your subconscious who creates the dream also knows that you're afraid of handling strange cats and uses your fear in your dreams to bring you nearer to waking.
In waking life youget gradually more allert if you kno something is dangerous; it is same in sleep. If you see something dangerous out of the ordinaryinterestin and unusual, it brings you near waking and eventually wake you up.

Well, Maybe the dream represents guilt about having to put the cat down. I'm sure you have a lot of those instances with sick animals but the pain could represent how your handling the animals... like it's in your hands and it leaves a scar, or mark. Dont get me wrong i'm not saying you hurt them at all. I respect you greatly for what you do but i'm just throwing some things out there <3
