long dreams

i dreamed i was at some event, probably for young kids, my brother was happy about it. there were probably rides and fun things going on inside. it was on the road that runs along the river. in the dream it was all tents and i thought there must be a lot of rules for getting in, i didnt really want to. there was something with big beavers at the front, i went and looked at them, didnt see it clearly. my brother was still pleased about it, but we werent going in.

then i dreamed i was in the city where i was born. my mom was there holding a baby. the baby was me. i wasnt entirely there. she was telling me i should have died back then. we were walking on pavement near a chainlink fence beside a pale yellow flat-roofed building. i thought a motel maybe. she said she should have fallen there. like she stayed there after i was born. the concrete wasnt stable and would have broke under her. so then we went on the other side of the fence to see how it was. i looked at the ground on the way around there. it had been patched up to be made stable. a happy oldish couple came from the building and smiled and greeted us. they mentioned how they patched up the front. the lady was wearing glasses and make-up and had curly grey hair. the guy had straight hair, old fashioned cut. my mom continued around the back of the building. the concrete was sunk. i stood behind the chainlink fence. i had my hands on it, i could see white pants and shoes, and white sleeves on my shirt, my face was pressed on the fence watching her. she walked down into the sunken area, i thought she shouldnt. she walked across this broken place where it was like everything had sunk into a marsh. large chunks of concrete had fallen through and disappeared leaving puddles in brown clay. she walked across one of these puddles as if she was on solid ground. because my perspective and hers were different, and to her it was still solid but ready to break.

then there was a dream with something like a motel and a campground. it wasnt bad. trees and all that. it was kind of confusing, my parents were trying to figure out if they were coming or going, and what to do to get everyone organized. anyway, i thought it was a motel. but then i went and looked at the front of the building, and it said stonemor in grey letters above the door. this is a cemetery and funeral home operator. i own stocks in this company. it wasnt the motel i wanted.

Hi weiss,

First, I think the dream of the place with the tents might be about you looking back on your childhood and its simple pleasures and finding yourself unable to understand them and perhaps realizing that you can't go back to that (not being able to see clealy or even take a look under the tents). Sounds to me like you've had a lot of heavy stuff on your mind lately and want things to be simpler, but you may have realized you've passed a point of no return (lots of rules to get in and you're not interested in trying to be up to snuff).

The second dream with your mom is a bit harder to get at. I have no idea how to interpret the first part of the dream up until the point where you meet the old couple (sorry ). But after that... I think the key word here may be "couple". The old people were able to patch up the front together, but the back remained a dangerous mess which your mother enters willingly. It sounds like you think companionship could have solved your mother's issues with her identitiy or path in life, or at least kept them from becoming a dangerous obstacle, but that she purposefully chose to forsake that and try to make her way through something otherwise dangerous and impenetrable. Your differing perspectives at the end of the dream show that on some level you understand her folly (you're wearing white -- enlightenment), but that she does not, and for that reason alone she is able to get through whatever it is that you think the swamp represents (maybe just life in general).

As for the dream about the funeral home, it's also a toughie. Maybe you're realizing that you only have one chance at life (a funeral parlor representing a definitive end of the line, as opposed to a motel that only serves as part of a journey, part of a process), and that perhaps your parents have gotten it wrong in trying too hard to figure things out, because it seems no one is going anywhere after all, you're all already there at the end. Sounds like you think maybe life is doomed to pointless confusion if you try to think of it in terms of directions to take when all roads lead to Rome.

Maybe you've already got this figured out, or maybe I'm way off base. I'm really interested in the first part of that second dream though - what do you think your mom meant when she said she "should have fallen there" and that you "should have died back then"? Maybe the you she was holding wasn't you per se, but her idea of you or of having children at all, as in a concept of continuing human existence or remaking the self...? I don't know... Anyway, hope I've been helpful in some way!

P.S. I've read some of your interpretations, and I think you've got a real talent for understanding dream thought. Kudos, and keep up the good work (as if I were entitled to say that, but anyway...). This forum needs more dedicated people who actually know what they're talking about.

hmm. the first dream had me confused, but that sounds right. if there's one thing i'm not good at it's relationships. i'm not really a nice person, or maybe i am and i just do awful things, so that may be what all the rules are about.

i interpret that stuff about i should have died as meaning i expected something to end and never continue. some very short duration. so the old couple could be more about a lengthy existance. i don't have any negative thoughts about my mom's life in general.

i'm not hopeful about the future. maybe more than i used to be, just certain aspects of it.
