The tree is almost certainly a symbol of the psyche or the Self. It is seen in various religions and myths as the World Tree. For example, in Norse mythology, it is Yggdrasil. The closest thing to a World Tree in Hinduism may be the Ashwattha.
Although the raven and other dark-colored birds can give the appearance of being an omen of evil, I’m not sure if this is the meaning in this dream. The dark color of the bird appears to be negative. But, I believe that black animals can also be symbolic of the ability of the animal to travel through the unknown darkness of the unconscious – symbolized as the lower world. In general, I typically interpret birds as being positive images in a dream. The bird is a creature of the air. It is, therefore, a heavenly or spiritual animal. The bird’s dark color might mean that it is a dark or evil spirit, but I doubt it. BTW – in Norse mythology, Odin had two ravens named Huginn and Muninn (thought and memory). These birds would travel the world and gather information and then return to tell Odin. |

I have somewhat of a different approach.
The raven is one of two possibilities symbolically. Since it in this case is considered to be a negative symbol in this dream. The raven represents your wishes and efforts to ward off death. Your fear of mortality has triggered the fight or flight instinct. This dream literally has you battling or fighting death (the raven). Perhaps in waking life you are witnessing your father getting older and frail. You do not find this easy to accept, quite understandably. You take it upon yourself to reject the notion of death and actually get him to join in. Often this type of dream is presented at times when someone close to the dreamer is facing seriousillness.
