Default Saying Goodbye to a Child...

First of all, no, I do not have children.

Basically the dream last night I had last night, that for some reason I was really upset at this morning, is: I am saying good-bye to a child, and I have some strong emotional ties to this child, like a long-time babysitter. As I am saying goodbye, the child (a young girl) realizes that we will never see each other again, so she starts crying.

I, too, start crying (in my dream), and the little girl keeps saying "Don't leave me, please don't leave, I don't want you to go" Meanwhile the owner of the house is telling me what a bad neighborhood her house is in, so she will wait outside for the proper bus to come and come in and tell me when it is time to leave. I tell the little girl that I have to go, but the little girl hugs me again tightly saying that she wants me to stay. In the dream, I really, really want to stay.

Then, the owner of the house (I know neither the owner nor the young child in real life, by the way) comes in and says that she told the bus to wait, but he won't wait long. I grab up my bag and realize that I forgot a bunch of books in the little girls' room, so I run in and start putting them in my bag. All the while the woman of the house is yelling for me to hurry, that the bus is going to leave soon. The little girl is trying to help me, but she also hides some of the books to keep me there.

I eventually get all of the books, give the little girl a last hug farewell, and go out the door, only to realize that the bus is gone and it is night-time.

And, then I wake up.

I read dream interpretation today about how children represent wanting to nurture an innocent part of your personality, I don't know if this is right or not I'm just looking for alternative explanations. :-D Thanks!

I would tend to ignore the symbols as such. Dreams to me tend to capture feelings. New emotions twere foriming in the middle of the night. The dream captured the same set of emotins as you woke up in. The sadness in the dream reflected some sadness inside you. You were thinking during the night and that dream reflected the sadness. It did not cause the dream. It merely reflected it.

Dream interpreting is not an easy task. In some ways its like trying to work out what subject inspired someone’s poem by studying the metaphors within it. It can be done though. But you only achieve any level of success when you interpret your own dreams.

Generally dreams are very much in the present day. They will often represent specific thoughts either as we look back to the previous day or as we focus on the day to come. So a snake for example symbolises something bad and in the context of a dream analysis will generally point to some problem or trap either that you nearly fell into yesterday or that you worry about in the near future. But either way there are not that many problems and traps and difficult situations from yesterday. Usually you will be able to highlight one thing.

So try to look at dreams simply. A good dream will show your happy state of mind and so thats really not that difficult to trace.

Your dream is intriguing to me because I had a very similar dream about 3 years ago. In mine, I was lost in a dense forest then heard a crying child behind me. I turned to see a little girl of around 6 or 7 sitting on the ground in a magenta dress with a grazed knee. She was crying because she'd lost her parents and was all alone. In the dream, I felt attached to the child even though we were not related in any way, and as we were both lost, I offered to help her, which I did by carrying her though the forest with me as we both tried to find the way out. Throughout the next day, I couldn't stop thinking about that dream, and every time I thought of the girl's crying, I felt a little sad.

Apropos of unclebobbyrobson's point, I was not "in a good place" (as it were) when I had the dream and believed the little girl symbolised my emotional vulnerability at the time and the forest, my state of mind.

I would also say that rather than ignore the dream symbols outright, you should look at them in terms of your own personal associations. I don't believe another person can tell you exactly what your dreams mean because each dream is personal to the individual. For instance, if you didn't like cats, a cat in your dream may be negative compared to the same symbol appearing in the dream of someone who was a cat lover. To that end, you can't just say to someone "If you dream of a cat, it means this or that".

Bearing this in mind, I think you should write down the key symbols and consider what they mean to you personally. Also think about how you felt thoughout the dream; everything that appears in your dreams does so for a reason and the only way you can work out what that is is by constant self-reflection and analysis. Don't expect answers right away either, but if you take my advice, you'll turn something up sooner or later. It's worked for me...

Just remember that dreams are the product of your unconscious mind, which is a part of you. Unlike the conscious, it is non-linear and not ruled by logic and not constrained by our conscious morality, therefore its methods of articulation are more creative and "artistic", if you will. That said, it is still a part of you which is why you need to understand its way of communicating with your conscious side. Ultimately, it will help you understand yourself as an individual.

Hope this rambling helps...
