OK, this is an unusual one (perhaps). I'm not so much after a direct interpretation, but I'm certainly interested in seeing if anyone else has experienced anything like this before, and what they did about it.
About 8 years ago, I had a dream where I was some kind of valiant young hero in some kind of fantasy land. I'd just been informed that the princess of the land, a young girl who was 13 had just been kidnapped and so I set off to rescue her. I ran across an open field until I came to a large structure made of what looked like paving slabs that rose high into the air like a pyramid with a missing capstone (i.e. the very top of it was flat). I started to climb the pyramid and when I got to the top I noticed 4 statues positioned at each of the pyramid's corners and what looked like an altar in the centre, to which the girl was chained by her hands and feet. I set about trying to recue her, but noticed that whenever I had my back to any of the statues, that statue would start to move towards me until I turned to face it. Somehow, I eventually defeated all 4 statues and freed the girl and the two of us climbed down the pyramid and walked on across the field. The view then switched and I was now an observer rather than a participant. I then watched as "me" and this girl kissed and said "We both knew this would happen, didn't we?" to which she responded by giggling. After that, I became a participant once more. Once we reached her castle, we were greeted by her father (the king) who thanked me for saving his daughter and offered her hand in marriage. I stood there as he made the proposal, thinking the girl was WAY too young (I shouldn't have even kissed her, tbh but hey that's dreams for you...). All the same, she stood in front of me with a big beaming smile on her face, anticipating my answer, only it never came because I woke up. OK, here's the weird bit. Fast forward to the present: I recently MET this very same girl IRL, only she was actually 21, which is exactly the age she would be 8 years on from the dream (13 + 8 = 21). I recognised her straight away, and when I learnt her actual age, I almost jumped out of my skin. Now, what I want to know is if anyone else had experienced anything similar. As for the girl, I'm not trying to read anything into the dream with regards to me and her - it's just a dream, BUT it's the fact that 8 years ago, I dreamt about someone I was yet to meet (and whose actual age corresponds with her dream age plus the number of years before we met) that intrigues me and has caused me look at dreams in a whole new light. To that end, could the people we meet in our dreams actually exist somewhere in the world? And if so, could dreams be a shared experience? (I seem to recall reading something along those lines somwhere). I'm interested in what your thoughts are on this, and whether you've ever encountered anything similar yourself. Thanks for reading. |

take it from someone on the other side of this equation, i have met a guy but there's something i have not told him yet, i will eventually, just the opportunity hasnt risen yet (and i'm scarred!) but the fact that this girl did tell means she trusts you, and does not want any secrecy b/w u two, so u have to give her props for that... look its the hardest thing in the world to tell someone everything of your past, because u are afraid it will ruin what "special" thing u do have now... but its equally hard to accept someone's past, but if u truly love this girl, u must love every aspect of her, every fault every good every everything!!! that is what love is... so now u have to ask urself, is she worth loving, or do u want to continue the search for "miss right" ??? its ur life so u have to decided, just think about it before u tell her goodbye, u may always regret it....

The girl in question hasn't told me anything about her past and neither do we have a "special something". She is not my girlfriend, just someone I know (as a friend), whom it just so happens appeared in a dream I had 8 yeas BEFORE I'd even met her. My query was whether anyone else had experienced anything like this themselves whilst pondering what this implies about dreams in general. For instance, could this offer some proof that we really are all connected to one another on an unconscious level? Furthermore, if dreams serve a purpose, then why did I dream of this particular individual 8 years ago? There was nothing more to my enquiry than that. very interesting. It is only an opinion but I have also had many experiences that I have really wondered about in my dreams and there are people that I seem to know as well in my dreams as I do the people in my physical world. I wonder sometimes if just as we have a mental, physical, spiritual, emotional dimension, so does the universe and it is in fact possible meet up with other souls when our physical bodies are resting. I think that if that were true, it would still only be one part of dreaming as I feel dreams are definitely a time for us to heal and rest emotionally and we work the things that trouble us out in a subconcious way.
It could also be a possibilty that we join up with everything subconciously in that deep all knowing place that we have within us, and on some level we already know everyone as we are all connected? oh yes, and p.s. just wanted to ask you whats with the avatar? Its a lil disturbing? Go well

Well I certainly do believe in premonitions. Part of me is sceptical of dreams that go deep into the future. But I have had these once or twice. they are strange. You kind of know that these are premonitions. Yet the longer a dream has to come true then the less convincing it is. I often think if you dream about a disaster and one happens the next day then its quite strong evidence.
But dreams can be really quite weird. They can link to all times and all places. I would not like to dismiss anything outright. ------------------------ We often go to the movies or watch TV and can get highly involved in the plot and emotions that the characters go through. Dreams are very much like this. If a dream seems highly emotional then it maybe is capturing the emotions that you feel about some situation in your life. So see how these little movies really captured your emotions from yesterday. Pick out crucial moments from the previous day and see how the emotions and feelings are replayed. Many dreams simply capture the emotions that we feel - many simply capture emotions that are easy to recognise such as happiness, sadness and frustration. When we watch a TV show it may not bear any direct relation to our own real lives but still we can identify with the characters in simple ways. So forget the detailed plot of a dream and just try to get a clue from the dreams simple emotions. Then see what relevance they have to your own life. How do the characters in the dream feel and how are they similar to your own real life? Thanks for your contributions to this, guys. The following is something that relates to what I'm talking about. I found it on a Carl Jung page someone set up.

Well I think that both are the case. I am sure that there are dreams were we can communicate with others . We can see times from the future. We can perhaps even talk with people who have died.
But I also believe that there are entirely internal dreams. These can be linked to the way that the brain processes information. They link to key thoughts and feelings. The kind that really sum up how you feel on something. They are especially linked to the present. Perhaps some mood that you had before waking up. In such dreams there are no esp, no telepathy and no premonition. So the dream mind can be used in two different ways by two different processes. Its like a TV. You can have films on it, you can use it to monitor other people using cctv cameras. You can watch high drama and culture. You can also watch trashy soap operas with rubbish acting. It has many different uses. ------------------ One way of telling how vital dreams are is to study people who are deprived of sleep and dreams.Sleep deprivation is very dangerous if it continues for extended periods. If you are deprived of sleep for several days then you will slip into madness. The reason for this is that sleep and dreams are linked to vital brain functions. During the day we store up new thoughts and experiences within short term memory blocks. So if we are deprived sleep these become overloaded. The mind has no more space to store new feelings so these are merely forgotten. During sleep vital brain waves emerge. Beta waves and theta waves are only ever detected within the brain at night. These help us process through those new feelings and experiences stored in short term memory. We integrate these new feelings into long term memory blocks. So if you do not sleep then you will not be updating your thoughts. You will not be building a bigger picture. Enjoyed the metaphor!
