a black bird and a candle

i was at my home- heard a knock @ door- opened front door and there was a black dird hovering @ eye level- could not tell if it was a raven or crow- holding a candle in one claw- i dont think the candle was lit

Have you ever read the poem "The Raven" by chance?

The black bird may mean a conflict or struggle, possibly a lack of luck, and the candle may represent a project, etc. you will embark on to solve the problem. You may also have to make some hard choices along the way.

Basically, whether just in the dream or in real life, you are going to begin an adventure or quest. It may just be waiting for you to recognise it. You may need to be cautious about the choices you make along the way, though.
