I. I was in a field, with two others. A vast wide open space, The color of the sky was quickly changing from blue to gray. A storm was coming. We started heading "back", no one spoke. We kept a steady pace, passing through areas of hills and dense forest, before reaching the shore of a body of water. Across the water, I could make out the opposite shore. There was no way around this lake. Thunder rumbled overhead and the sky took on a more menacing look than before. Long thin steel gray clouds moved quickly across the pale purple/gray backdrop.

Of the other two, one was older, stronger and confident. The other was young and weak, I was the medium of the group. The older one noticed train tracks just under the surface of the water, about a half foot under. He quickly jumped ahead and we followed. The tracks twisted and turned taking us in all directions. The feel of the steel tracks on my bare feet didn't hurt as much as I expected. We moved very quickly, almost as if we were weightless, and before long we came to a "station situated halfway between us and our destination. Reaching the station we stopped to catch our breath. The soft rain turned to pouring and thunder crashed loudly, only the sound didn't stop. Looking back we saw a train headed straight for us, maybe 50 yards away. I leaped forward across the tracks as quickly as I could manage, never looking back.

Reaching a point on the tracks close enough to the shore we jumped across onto the dingy shoreline. The sand was a dirty brown and discarded cans and bags spotted it's surface. The sky was much darker now and lighting struck often. The water was choppy and gray. The smallest of the group wasn't with us. Just past the sand was an area of rundown buildings with little to no space behind them, most looked abandoned. This area of buildings was under a large bridge(a large four lane bridge for cars). This kept it in even more shadow. "Our" building was a two story thin red brick joint with boarded up windows.

Inside there was no electricity, candles burned here and there, bunched together dripping wax down onto the floor, they were mostly white or off white candles. The dimness of the inside took some time for my eyes to adjust to. When it did, I noticed people laying on single mattresses every so often on the concrete floor, some reading some sleep. Aside from this, wooden crates and large metal barrels like oil drums and blue plastic barrels sat in random places. It was much bigger than I expected from the outside. Ten or so brick pillars went from floor to ceiling, same red brick as outside. The smaller kid approaches, "I thought you were gone" I say, he smiles sheepishly. Moving forward, a few girls caught my eye. I noticed one laying in front of a boarded up window and approach her. She was asleep, too bad I thought and laid down next to her watching the slivers of pale purple light slipping in through the boarded window. Sleep took over me.

II. I walk out of a door and down three steps. I'm in a big city, it's sunny and warm. Looking around I don't see anyone else out on the street. To my right in between buildings I see fake caution tape and signs saying hazard and grizzly murder in children's writing, it reminds me of goofy halloween decorations. Theres a printed list of instructions on the ground, yellow pages stapled together. It reads like it's serious, but it's obviously not. I grin to myself and go back into the building. Curtains hang over all the windows, I go upstairs. No outside light reaches here, some kind of purple glow shines out just barely managing to stick to the walls. Every door is closed but one, it seems to be the source of the light. I go inside.

The light seems more red than purple in here, and does little to help me see. I can just make out a bed with white sheets and a woman laying in it. The bed glows the color of the light, but the woman is a solid shadow, very long black hair. I call to her walking forward, but she makes no reply. I know she's only pretending to be asleep. As I think this to myself she sits up in the center of the bed and spirits start to fly around us in slow motion. She gives a quiet laugh, it doesn't sound evil or bad. She whispers something but I can't make it out. I run my hand through a spirit and move back down the stairs to go outside.

A giant of a man is sitting on the stoop. He wears a faded ancient looking black suit and fidgets with the counterpart black hat in his lap. His skin is extremely pale, almost gray. His hands are the size of baseball gloves. His skeletal structure is angular, his skull looks almost square and his brow and cheekbones are protruding, his eyes are dark and sunken. Despite all this he seems very timid. I nod to him and he nods looking down, fidgeting with the hat some more. "I'm dreaming ain't I?" I ask him. " I . . I'm really not sure . . sorry." he says nervously. I place my wallet on one of the brick ledges and ask him to make it float. "I can't do that." he pleads. I tilt my head staring."Just try. A moment later I see a ghost image of his own hand float towards the wallet and lift it slowly. I laughed. "You couldn't make it float, so you made a hand disconnected from anything reach over and lift it." End.
