I'm Hoping Someone Can Help Me Analyze This One...

I tend to have some pretty vivid dreams, usually involving people I know but this one has got me feeling a little confused and unsettled.

I dreamt that I met up with an old friend...this is someone who means the world to me and haven't seen in quite a while. I miss him terribly and think of him every single day. Anyway, he and I met up at the patio of what I think was an internet cafe or something. Now that I think about it though, the layout of the place was a lot like a bar he and I used to go to. I arrived early to meet him and I sat in front of a computer screen which displayed a couple of poems I wrote about him nearly a year ago. I couldn't recite them now if I tried, but there they were, word for word. The poems were longing and sad, if that makes a difference.

When he showed up, we hugged and kissed and were extremely happy to see each other. We went outside to the patio and sat down, face-to-face. I cannot recall the details of what we talked about but I remember it was the usual chatter that we always have and at one point, we also held each other really tight. The sky outside was very dark and grey and there was a really bad storm coming. A little blond boy came out to the patio. In the dream, I recognized him as a friend's child but in real life I don't know who he is.

The three of us stood and watched the sky, lightening and listened to the thunder as more dark storm clouds rolled in. The clouds formed into three very prominent bull heads. The clouds that formed them were black against the dark grey sky. At that point, the little boy became afraid and wanted to leave. I told him I'd take him back to his mother and my friend and I made plans to meet up the next day. I took the boy back into the cafe where a couple of friends of mine were sitting, having a drink. In real life, one of them has a little boy, but I've never seen him. I left the boy with them and started to leave and that's where the dream ended.

I tend to dream about this friend of mine pretty regularily but this dream stands out to me and I'm not sure why. I normally forget most details of dreams after I wake up but this one's still crystal clear. If anyone has any idea what this dream was trying to tell me, I'd be most appreciative. If it makes a difference, when I woke up, a storm had obviously just passed, as it was raining out and all my clocks were flashing 12:00.

This dream is a combination of message and incorporation of that which happened while you slept.
You obviously have intense and positive feelings for your friend. The meeting is a combination of awareness that he is, and always be, a part of you and likewise, he will always consider you a part of him. The little blond boy symbolized that which happened (in real life) while you slept. His role in the architecture of the dream serves as a "safety outlet", a way for you to respond by waking up, should something become a threat to your safety...the storm materialized in your dream (as it happened in real life as you slept), and the little boy initiated an exit plan for you in your dream. This is a classic example of how outside sounds or movement can be incorporated into a dream in progress.

This really hit home with me. You are dead-on. It brings me some peace knowing there's a chance that he considers me to be a part of him. The situation with him (which I believe is sparking all these dreams) is a pretty intense one and takes up a lot of space in my head, so to speak.

What you said about a safety outlet makes perfect sense to me, now that I think about past dreams and such. Thanks a lot for your input!
