Default Holding a Golden Cross

I was traveling in a car with two other men in the predawn hours. The road had passed several gigantic smokestacks and at the base were lighted Christmas decorations that people put out in their yards. I wondered why they were still trying to sell them in May. We traveled on until we came to a small church in the English countryside. I got out of the car and entered the church and sat down on the end of a pew. When I looked down I noticed that there was a beautiful golden cross that was screwed onto the seat area. I wanted to examine the cross and curiousity got the best of me so I unscrewed it and looked at it. I couldn't help but admire its beauty. However, when I tried to screw it back on, I couldn't get the holes to match up. I began to panic because parishoners began filing in and sitting down. An older woman who was dressed in black sat next to me and peered over to seee what I had done. She smiled and tried to help me, but to no avail. Then the Vicar came into the Chapel. Meanwhile, my younger son rose up and began proclaiming that the whole incident was was his fault. I turned around and told him to sit because that was not true. Next, my father cmae inside the chapel and told me that we needed to leave quickly. Then I turned towards the Vicar and congregation and explained that I had taken off the golden cross to admire it and that I couldn't put it back on. I added to that my younger son had nothing to do with it and that he was only trying to protect me. The Vicar smiled at us and said that everyone in that congregation including himself had removed that cross and had to put it back on with the help of everyone in the church. He invited my son, father, and me to stay. My father asked me about our appointment and I told him that it could wait. Then he smiled at me and agreed with me.

Howdy! Admittedly, I don't know much about dreams yet, but I hope to learn.

I'm looking to get into working with communities, so that aspect hits me most about it.

Firstly, you have your father and son both trying to protect you. The son is especially interesting, given the selflessness of his action.

Then you have the congregation. First the older lady attempting to help you, and then the Vicar telling you they had all tried, and had the help of the congregation.

I've noticed recently that the particular group of people I associate with, I never think of being 'one of them', if you will. It's as if they're at a higher level than I am, and I aspire to be part of that group. In reality, I'm fairly certain I am part of the group. Sometimes an event happens that just brings us together. Maybe this was that event for you, in the dream.

Certainly there's religious overtones. Perhaps you feel 'outside' as far as the church community goes. Or maybe it's just trying to show you an intangible bond, and showing how it's more important than even a beautiful and likely expensive symbol of a faith.

Again, I'm new at this. Just my thoughts on how I'd see it!

Your dream is a tad complex which contains the mixture of sex and social mores (majorum) in which you were discovered engaged in nefarious activity and you have since been attempting to justify your action (to yourself).
