I was walking up the path of a little country churchyard. I didn't much want to go inside the church, but I heard a voice telling me to do so, so I did. Inside the church was an old man, walking with a stoop, and he showed me this square door in the wall which he opened to reveal a bright golden light. That's where it ended.
Any ideas on what this could mean? |

Hi,
A church means a wise man. A yellow light means a chance for praying to God.

Your dream is a good one.
It clearly shows that you are reluctant to face or recognize a strong belief that you have. The innuendo is that while you are reluctant to directly face your strong belief head on...it is alive inside you. As well it is shown that you have wisdom beyond that which you are fully aware. This is often depicted by the old man, Archetype that sits on the stoop. It is a fact that if we take the time to listen to our subconscious messages (presented on our dreams) we bring to consciousness that which we are already slightly aware). I have seen this dream from those who have stepped away from structured religion but remain very spiritual. The notion is explored, that perhaps you are taking personal inventory of the person that you are...who you are inside. What you see is very good! sailrmc |

Hi there,
I was walking up the path of a little country churchyard. The dream seems to speak where you "move to" in your inner world. It is "a little country churchyard". The Church as a symbol of course seems to relate to religion. The fact that it is "in the country" can point out that it is something more of your personal spirituality than of a big collective spirituality, as would be the symbol of a church in the city with a thousand people in it. No, it seems to be more personal, and you "approach" this inner church in your dream. I didn't much want to go inside the church, but I heard a voice telling me to do so, so I did. The "voice" which is sometimes heard in dreams can represent a psychological authority greater than the Ego, namely the Self. One could describe the Self as the Higher personality, a deeper part of oneself. Actually the Self would like to point out to you the expieriences which may happen in this inner, personal "church". You are reluctant at first, but then decide to follow this impulse. Such an "inner voice" can sometimes be misleading, and one should use one's good reason to put it into proportion. Here however, things seem like a good intuition that is pointing into the right direction. Inside the church was an old man, walking with a stoop, and he showed me this square door in the wall which he opened to reveal a bright golden light. The "Old man" appearing in the dream could be the archetype of the "Wise old man", a representation of inner wisdom. This part of you actually is pointing you to something: an opening in the "wall" which reveals a bright golden light. This "bright golden light" is perhaps the "essence of religion", a manifestation of the secrets that lie behind sheer theology. The "wall" can be something separating and hindering. In certain cases, it could be blockades of thought, in the sense of "no, God could never be like this etc.." As long as the wall exists, the deeper meaning of religion is not seen. But actually, in your personal psychology, "there is no wall", there is an opening through which the transpersonal can shine through. I think this dream wants to point out that you have a personal connection to this transpersonal, the "bright golden light", and should follow exploring it. Dream work in my experience can be a good way to do so. Does this help/make sense? Good luck Hermes |
