Was I dreaming?

A long time ago I had a dream about a man. He had long dark straightish hair and he was lying on his side virtually naked on the floor. He was obviously in agony, his skin was peppered with holes, his face was haunted. I felt dread in the pit of my stomach. He looked quite like a good friend of mine who had had a nervouse breakdown a few years earlier, but somehow it wasn't him. Although I can no longer remeber all the details the image was very real and very powerful.

Over twenty years later I was watching one of the discovery / history channels on TV. There was a program about the life and death of Jesus. During one part of the show the narrator talked about how Jesus was arrested and scourged. He explained that scourging involved being whipped with a whip which had bits tied into the lashes. These bits would tear out lumps of flesh during the punishment. They then showed an old drawing of a man with long hair laid on his side. The drawing showed little holes that had been caused by the whip.

This was only a drawing but its arraangemnt was so like the image I had seen in my dream. When I had the dream I had never heard of scourging or of holes being ripped into people skin. Was this just a curious dream or something more?
