I can't remember what i was dreaming before, but all of a sudden i had the feeling something was pushing down on my hand, I looked down and saw a big black spider, shaped something like a starfish sitting on my hand. I first feelings were panic, although i stayed very quite so as to not disturb the spider i didnt want it bite me. The only way that i thought i could get it off me without actually touching it with my other hand. I stuck my hand into black water, (we have a moor lake near us, so i imagine that was the water i was thinking of) I thought if i drowned the spider it would drop off and i would be free of it. instead i could hear it breathing and slowly sucking itself up to my elbow. At that stage i woke up in panic and was brushing my arm to get rid of the spider. I feeling has stayed with me all day.

well the dream seems to link to a moment of panic or recognition of danger. Was there a siimilar such moment nfrom the day before. where you recognised a real sense of danger.
------------------------ Nightmares have the ability to really frighten us. Thats because they contain weird and supernatural dream symbols such as demons and monsters. The forces that we fight against seem all too powerful. But really many nightmares are sourced right in the here and now. They symbolize our day to day traumas and difficulties. Many simply reflect on the previous day. Perhaps you simply took one risk too many? Perhaps you acted in a nasty and malicious way and your dream is alerting you to this. Many nightmares will not mention anything that can remotely link to real life in any meaningful way. But the link to reality is there. Really the best way to see nightmares is simply ask your self what real life situations are drifting into some nightmare scenario? What relationship is becoming a real problem? If you look up nightmare in the dictionary its definition is probably more down to earth than dreams would have us believe. A nightmare is really just a very big problem. In real life we get problems all the time and sometimes they get out of hand. Hi Mollymags!
I know you were distrubed by this dream, but it's a good dream in that I think it is warning you about the potential for something to exert a pretty strong negative influence on your life. I think you may have an idea already of what this might be, but it shows up in your dream as the "big, black spider." Spiders are often symbolic of things that can entrap ("weave a web of deceit", old story of the spider and the fly, etc). Having recognized this danger, you want it gone but the way you initially choose to deal with this threat can't do the job. You end up merely containing it temporarily by securing it with "netting with a hole" (not effective!). Socks can speak to the idea of "comfort" (stocking feet, take off your shoes and stay awhile, etc) and when you give comfort and aid to this thing it has the potential to reproduce itself a hundred times over (making baby spiders). Now you've got a real problem! The solution is the kill the spider, not capture it. In the second scene of your dream, the spider is now on your hand. Hand is often the way we speak of relationships or action. ("can you give me a hand with this?" or "let's shake on that" etc.) The picture is of this thing threatening to bite/negativly affect you. I think it is interesting is that your big, black spider resembles a starfish (5 legs rather than 8). It may be that your spider (whatever you know it to be) has real "star appeal", it really stands out, maybe someone who is very influential with great ability to reach out, etc. Anyway, having become convinced you need to be done with this thing, you decide to drown it. But instead of drowning, it becomes stronger and begins clawing it's way up your arm! Water is often symbolic of the spritual realm and black in this context is often associated with evil (as opposed to clear, fresh water associated with good, God, etc.) What happens is that you're putting the "big, black spider" back into the source of it's own strength instead of immersing it is what might kill it! Anyway, I think the dream is cautioning you about the existence of something that is not positive and has the potential to do extreme negative things that you've allowed to come into your life. It will take more than containment of the issue/thing/person, and the way out you initially think might work will only make it stronger and more adaptable. The solution lies is a totally different direction apparently. Out of black and darkness into light perhaps. Just some thoughts. May be totally off. Any of this resonate? |
