I died, but why did it feel so real?

Hi, well my dream started off with me in my ex roommates room(it was empty). i went into his bathroom and all his belongings (which were just clothes in the dream) were in there, then he entered. we talked, then walked into the empty room, started smoking a cig. he mentioned that he wanted to cut off the filter and brought out his knife. i became skeptical of his intension and pulled mine out to cut off my filter. i then realize that he was about to attack me so i counter attack, and i missed, and then he directly stabbed me in the throat, but it only went about 1 inch into my neck(and it felt so real!, even after i awoke). as the tip of the blade touched my neck time slowed down and i asked my self "is this how i die?, is this a dream?"( i think i accepted death, but was annoyed that it happened then, and that way) then the pain of the knife made me believe it was "real". i awoke afterwards, to then receive a phone call from a chick we both knew that started talking bad about him, and how hes such a lier, ect....

i feel that we were close (i've gained alot of incite about life from different perspectives from him, but never 100% trusted him, and felt taken advantaged of towards the ending of are friendship) before the incidents that caused are separation.

the next night he was in my dream but we were not 100% cool, and for some reason i was talking to him, and even touched him(i don't know why). he then asked me not to touch him and mentioned "this is the first time you touched me in a month". we then went out side, and some dealer asked me if i wanted to buy some pot. well of course i did, but didn't realize i was broke till we went inside where this lady shited all over the floor and was acting like a dog. (i mentioned not to get pissed that "shes just tripping out right now") i then awoke, and later on that day i got a friends request on myspace from a profile called medical marijuana, which lead me to articles about the uses of hemp. all this happened after reading about lucid dreaming, and techniques ect......

i'm open to all insights of these dreams

Just to add, i'm not confused of that fact of dieing in a dream as i understand the symbolic meanings. we all have died or was about to die in a dream. i'm just curious of why i missed, why was i where i was, ect...

but like i've said ever since that night my dreams have gotten more intense. last night i froze time right before i was attacked, pushed the attacker through a wall(he transcend through the wall, didn't break through). then for some reason i realized where i was, stuck both hands palms back to back. next i opened a hole (by pulling my hands apart) in the sky. what i seen in the hole was what i think is colorful symbols with heads and limbs(i originally thought it was furniture), the then all moved back to a wall when they saw me. then i very slowly awoke.

something brought that to my attention today as i was thinking, i even decided to stop smoking cigs (me and my brother had a conversation about stopping the day after when i still was not aware of symbolic meaning in dreams) and pot (decided to consume it for now on, and maybe thats one of the meanings of my death "a new life, of not smoking"). i decided to consume instead, remember there is no proof of the negative effects of consumption(its been in the human diet for thousands of years and there is over 55,000 uses of it, hemp been used for oil,seeds for food, and for even soap). *k i'm done with my rant *
