In many of my dreams for the past few years, I have been experiencing a detail that crops up at least a few times a week in various dreams I have.
The dreams themselves are varied, so it doesn't seem to be attached to any particular setting. I don't have any particular sleep disorder (because that is the first thing I had checked out when the dreams started), nor was I able to pinpoint any real world influence on the dream. In all the years I have experienced this aspect, I have never been able to identify what it could possible represent...if anything at all. But I assume that because I dream of this so frequently, it must mean something! What occurs is that at some point in my dream, my mouth becomes full. In my dream I am aware that the substance is bread dough, and it sticks to various places in my mouth when I try and get it out. Sometimes it sticks to the sides of my tongue, but most often it attaches itself to the back of my throat. When it "sticks", it makes it near impossible for me to get it out. It does not impede my breathing in any way, but in many cases I am embarassed as I will be in the middle of a conversation and need to turn away to try and pull dough out of my mouth. Sometimes I am able to pull the dough from my mouth, but it is never all of it. It is extremely difficult, once it "sticks" to places, to remove it entirely and I find myself having to just deal with having remnants in my mouth while dreaming. In other dreams the dough constantly refills, and when I do manage to remove some of it, there is more that appears shortly after. Sometimes the substance is gum, but the effects are the same. I'm not a gum chewer in real life, so I usually just chalk it up to another "mouth full" dream. I'm at a loss for the explanation for this, so I would appreciate any and all input and theories! |

Graceless...
I am glad you got yourself checked out to rule out sleep disorders. As you probably know....pulling things out of your mouth in a dream can indicate sleep apnea. Since you are saying you don't have that...I will take a stab at interpreting your dreams. There seems to be two possible meanings to your repetitive dreams. First...and probably most likely, they are dreams showing you your need to speak up on matters. You said that you are embarrassed in these dreams because you are constantly turning away from conversations to pull the dough out of your mouth. The dream may just indicate your embarassment over speaking to people about your concerns. Bread dough rises....so perhaps you need to rise up a bit and speak your mind. Another interpretation may be ironically like the old saying; of putting your money where your mouth is. You may have difficulty following through with promises or you may have difficulty backing up claims with facts. Please review carefully your follow through to see if it matches up with what you say you will do. Unless I am way off...I believe either of these interpretations may be helpful. Be well. |

Hi,
Although Shirah may be right, I would put a physical interpretation on your dreams. If someone watched you during these dreams he/she would see you sleeping with your mouth open. In this position the mouth gets dry and uncomfortable. The sleeper often attempts to talk and move the head. In your case you probably move your hand towards your mouth, however the movement depends on your level of consciousness in the sleep, and may by just a twitch of the hand muscle. The subconscious does the rest of removing the dough by make believe. Cheers Wolfjk

Hi,
Here are different scenarios for a mouth in the dream interpretation: If one dreamt his mouth was intensely closed means he will get ill or there is a death danger. If dreamt his mouth was very big so that there could place a lot of food means he will receive livelihood and blessing Some interpreters say: What if getting out of the mouth is speech and words and what is getting in the mouth is livelihood and blessing. If one dreamt he put something unpleasant in his mouth and was difficult to eat means he earns money with labor and hardship.**** This may be the case***** If dreamt his mouth was healthy means he will hear good words. If dreamt his mouth was weak and ugly means he will hear words and he is not able to anything. If dreamt his mouth flesh poured out , means he will have a loss. If dreamt his mouth was bleeding means someone will tell him a rude word. If dreamt his mouth blood polluted his pants means that quarrel is because of a woman. If dreamt there was a worm or other insect was getting out of his mouth means his wife or g/f will separate him. If dreamt there was feces coming out of his mouth means everything he does for people he asks for thanking him, ( obliging). If dreamt his mouth was good smell means he works without obliging. If dreamt there was hair in his mouth means he will have suffering from his tongue. If dreamt there was pearls coming out of his mouth and people took them and he no none means he people will use his knowledge but he doesn't use himself. If dreamt he spited out feces and people ran away from him means he is a poet and he satires people. If dreamt someone sealed his mouth and he didn't know him means he will have some infamy . Yacin /65. If dreamt he was yawning means he will complain from someone. Mouth may also mean : 1- A house 2- a warehouse 3- An opening 4- money 5- a wish 6- a minister 7- A doorman. Mixing dough means a true belief. Mixing a wheat floor dough means a benefit from a business on the condition that the dough was risen. If the dough wasn't risen means a lot of sins. Dough of millet means a little benefit. Dough may also mean ;1- increasing belief 2- a little benefit 3- moral livelihood Dream language interpretation is an ancient science of allusions and pointing of the surrounded environment, as Mr. Einstein has said the events are like train stations which exist and we are moving towards them, these are prewritten destiny with some authority ( in decision making seconds) in very full details. This dream language should be translated, and interesting to know it is international and common for all human beings. But ignorance causes some misunderstanings.People were not aware of this language and always thought in a bad way , for example Mr. Freud said about sexual dreams it is because you have suppressed your sexual desires so misled everybody and some women dreamt about having sex with co-workers or another and thought they should do that, while it only meant he will do something for her, or some others dreamt had sex with the same sex and invented homosexual, while it meant the same ,Also some men dreamt his wife had sex with a man and didn't understand or a woman dreamt her partner had sex with a woman and didn't' understand ...etc.Do you see what catastrophes are caused by misunderstanding a language. About the approximate interpretation time table: Dreams at noon or exactly at midnight( In the summer time 13 at noon and 1 midnight else at 12)in the same day if past a few minutes, a few days later. Dreams at 10-11 in the morning in 15-30 days later. Also dreams at 3-4 in the evening in 1-2 months .Dreams in the sunset mostly are not truthful and are messed, they have no interpretations, Dreams at 4-5 in the morning in a few days to 2 months some dreams in the holy books( Josef dream of kneeling the sun and the moon and 11 stars)was interpreted after 20 years and other dreams of the Pharaoh's prisoners interpreted in the same day and after 7 years. Dream of Pharaoh about the 7 thin cows and 7 fat cows interpreted from the next year to 14 years. Also dreams in 6th of the month will interpret after 1-2 days, in 9th at the same day, in 10th after 20 days, in 13th after 9 days in 14th after 26 days and in 15th after 3 days, in 16th after 2 days and in 28th ,29th ,30th in the same day, but these are solar (Persian months and you should refer to a calendar or convert them) . Of course there are different kinds of dreams , like messy dreams which have no interpretations or deja vu dreams, or psychological dreams or dreams which are caused by bad food or drinks. Bibliography: 1- Principles of the dreams, by Daniel the prophet (562-604 B.C) Peace be on him. 2-Divisions of the dreams, by Imam Sadeq peace be on him ( 663-798 A.C). 3- Generals of the dreams, by Mohammad ibn Syrin ( 690 A.C). 4- Guides in the dreams , by Jaber ibn Hay'an( Father of the new chemistry) 5- Interpretations, by Ibn Ash'as ( 840 A.C). 6- Complete interpretations, by Habish Teflisi ( 1180 A.C). 7- Treasures of the dreams( Al Ma'moni) by Abd al Salam ( 963 A.C).

Thank you both, Shirah and Wolfjk, I appreciate your responses! I've set myself up an appointment with my doctor to do more indepth testing at a sleep clinic for an actual sleeping disorder.
And I'll be sure to be opinionated and speak my mind about the entire process Thanks again! ![]() |

I have this exact same dream over and over. I sent you a private message with more details. I also did a sleep study, but my breathing was fine although they diagnosed me with narcolepsy due to my ridiculous amounts of REM sleep.
Pretty funny because during the sleep study i actually had this dream and i woke up choking which i had never done before. they said my breathing was normal but i did have accelerated heart rate when i woke up at that moment (because i was panicking in my dream i guess). The answers that everyone else gave feels really close, but not quite the answer. I cant put my finger on what it is exactly in my life that is causing this. i am a pretty outspoken person and Im not generally afraid to say what i feel like i need to say. the only thing i can think of is that i am a musician (singer/songwriter) and i have been having a horrible time with writers block and also with opening up my voice in front of others. you dont happen to be a musician or a writer or something do you? |

i have that dream all the time, usually involving chewing gum. i think there are a couple things involved. First off, i usually have the dream when my sleep cycle is a bit off and i am semi-lucid in my dream. i also have a lot of anxiety and i tend to be semi-lucid a lot when i fall asleep and when i wake up. not sure if i have sleep apnea, but maybe i do. secondly, i have the dream when im dehydrated or sleeping a certain way (not sure hoe). the body picks up physical realities and converts them into dreams, as someone abve said. i dont buy the freudian type analysis of dreams, im sure it has nothing to do with being outspoken etc. It probably does mean that you are not completely at ease in your sleep cycle, maybe getting to bed too late or being dehydrated. i had the dream for the first time in a while last night, maybe because i had a couple glasses of wine. anyways hope this helps, its crazy that peoples minds work so similarly.
