I live in Seattle but I dreamed I traveled to New Zealand. I have never been there before but I had known a family years ago who moved away there to live .
I had thought NZ was kind of cool and damp but in my dream it was sunny, warm and dry. It was kind of a rugged country with lots of volcanic rock making up the rather pleasant geography. There was a narrow and winding road I needed to travel in order to arrive at my destination. It was a decent road, but it was not paved and it was wet and muddy. I was driving an old WW2 army jeep that used to be in my family when I was growing up it California. I had to put it into 4 wheel drive to negotiate the slick, muddy road. The road was narrow, steep and kind of winding as it climbed over the countryside. In one section there were tight switch backs. Finally we ( I wasn't traveling alone, but I don't know who I was with) made it to the top of a ridge. There was a nice view of the surrounding country. It was a warm pleasant day and the country there abouts was rugged and all terraced off by hand in order to make level places for people to live and garden and such. I remember thinking the people must be very industrious to terrace off that rugged terrain. Finally I arrived at my destination which was a wood frame ranch style house painted white. It was located in a small valley, just wide enough for a homestead. It was owned by a single woman I didn't know but she greeted me as a guest and she was polite and friendly. In real life I make tea almost every day and I wanted to make some tea so I went over to the kitchen stove to see what there was to make some tea with. The kitchen and eating area was all one space and my hostess was seated at the kitchen table not paying me any mind. Above the stove, hanging from a hook, was an old fashion tea kettle with the lid on it. Perfect! I thought, and I reached up to take it down. When I took off the lid to my surprise two small birds that had been nesting in there flew out! One was larger than the other, male and female I figured. The larger bird I was able to get back in the pot but the smaller would have none of that and flew out the rear screen door that was left open. I ran outside to try and catch it, but it flew a ways away and landed in some bushes. I knew I would never be able to retrieve the bird so I went back inside the house. These birds were my hostess's pets and I had to break the bad news to her that I had lost one of her birds. She was visibly disappointed but she told me not to worry about it. I felt responsible but how was I to know her pet birds were in the tea pot? That is pretty much how it ended. The dream was unusual for me because it followed a pretty logical path, where most of my dreams tend to be more abstract and tough to make sense out of, or even remember. Also, it was a very vivid dream. |
