siblings and robbers and murder, oh my!

so i dreamed that my younger brother( who in real life is a paraplegic but in the dream could walk), younger sister, and i were at my mother's house( i no longer live there, i was kind of kicked out after college but have since reconciled with everyone) when there was a break in. the intruder was not familiar to me and rather than steal anything he shot my brother and sister then left. i was not wounded but was left with the decision of which one of them i would save( i am a nurse). i woke up sobbing and had serious feelings of anxiety until i spoke to both of them. any insight into this nutty dream would be very helpful.

Dreams are only "nutty" if you don't know what they are trying to do in your sleep.
My guess is that you had some problem in the sleep this dream happened. The problem was probably the psychological pain of having truoble with your famile. You may be reconcyled at present but the memory of the break up and arguments still haunts you. In short you feel guilty about the disagreements. When the negative thoughts come streaming back in your sleep you need a dream like yours to exit from them.
