At one point in my dream, I walked into a store much like quiznos or jimmy johns, and saw a past lover in line wearing a hat of the same pattern and material as the sweatshirt I was wearing. I was caught off guard, and decided to leave before I was noticed. For some reason I felt that he would think I got my sweatshirt to match his hat, and that the situation may be awkward. But after fleeing the store, I spent the remainder of my dream looking for him, and I did this by looking for his hat. Time went by in the dream and I stopped looking for him because I was now far away from the city where this happened.
The significance of this person in my life has always been complicated. I adored him for years, and when we went to college we dated very briefly and ended very abruptly (not a healthy break up either). I chased after him and took the break up extremely hard - it was a tough time in my life on a couple major levels - I was suicidal, and my best friend was about to die from cancer. After I stopped chasing, a silence began that has not been broken for almost two years. In the dream when I stopped looking for him, I continued to think about him much like in waking life when I continued thinking about him after I stopped chasing him. I am currently dating someone that went to high school with us as well, and he mentions from time to time how he would really like to hang out with the past lover. I think this may be connected to why I am dreaming about these things now. After typing it out, my dream appears to be so trivial. However, since the dream up until that turning point had no direction, I'd like to know what anyone else may think about it. |

With all due respect this dream is not trivial at all. This contributes to the minds continuing efforts to resolve feelings relating to your ex-lover. The sweatshirt/hat thing as the following significance (and while it may seem trivial, it is acknowledgment and this alone will help the processes of the mind to better resolve the uneasy feelings that can pop when you least expect it.
Yes the dream was likely incubated by the suggestion by you current bf to hang out with your ex. The mind likely decided to swing in to action so as to move the resolution aspect of this situation into high gear. It knows that the break up event caused you much trauma and pain since the subconscious mind is your mentor, friend and on-board shrink it felt the need to make a move. The hat shows that your subconscious mind feels like he still thinks of you (for whatever that is worth) and the sweat shirt shows that you still feel emotions that relate to him. I am not saying that you love him or that you are in love with him...I am saying the he evokes emotion in you (very deep). sailrmc |

Women usually dream of their ex's when they are going through a stressful time in a new relationship or hitting emotional moments (triggers). It's not odd that you should see him in your dream matching you as you must've had something in common in order to have a relationship, but do remember ex's are usually ex's for a reason and I would focus more closely on that.
