Default reoccuring elevator problems

Hi I'm very new to this. My grandmother used to interpret dreams but she passed years ago and I'm afraid I need some help with these. I've been having dreams of uncontrolable elevators for years. But the last 3 have been especially wierd and I can't help but feel like I'm not getting something.

My usual dream is me lost in a hotel. I was born and raised in Las Vegas so I assumed that's why I was always in a hotel. I'd be on some floor lost and trying to get to the bottom to leave, but every elevator I got on couldn't take me there. They'd go sideways, up, down, diagonal, and they scared the hell out of me. But I needed to ride them to get to the bottom. Eventually my mom would show up but she would be strangly detached and un-nerved by my problem (not like my mom). Usually she would leave me in some wierd manner right before I found my way to the bottom floor and walked out of the hotel. ie. jumping off the building with a parachute. My mom has been in my dreams with this distant demeanor since I was a little child eventhough she is my best friend in the world.

The first wierd one we were at this very futuristic hotel. The elevators were in tubes that that looked like water rides. They even did loop de loops. My dad was in this too. Basically they left me to go back to the lobby and I stayed because I was too scared to go on the loop de loop again. I woke up after finally saying no I'm not going on that thing I can't.

The one after that I had after I moved away from Vegas to Dallas, just a few weeks ago. This was some almost prehistoric hotel. One whole side of it was completely open to what looked like a water world with trees off in the distance. There were huge lines to get into these buckets on strings that were manually operated (elevators). My boyfriend? I think it was, went in a group ahead of me, but instead of going up, they took the bucket across the water towards the trees. I went to get into my groups bucket and the rope broke. we waded in the water trying to make it up this ramp. The water was gorgious but in the distance we saw a huge pod of dolphins headed for us. We were all quickly told to get out of the water and hide. They were half man half dolphin and were man eaters. They were attracted to them smell of blood, and I was on my period. They looked like when Stan's dad on South Park got plastic surgery to be a dolphin excpet they were blue. Well I hid all over the hotel and they didn't find out I was the one on my period. So I lived. Then I woke up.

The one I had last night took place in what looked almost like a barn. I have horses so this was comforting. But the elevator was a wood box and located inside metal panaled stalls. I got in on the bottom floor and wanted to go to the next floor up which in my dream was 5. The guy in the elevator hit 6 by mistake and I hated him. We got to 6 and 4 more people joined us. I asked what floor they wanted and they said any floor. I asked if 8 was ok and they said make it 80. The buttons only went from 0 to 9 so I assumed you could hit 2 numbers to get to double digit floors but I wasn't sure how many floors there were. I hit 5 for me and when I went to hit 8 for them I jerked and hit it twice. There were going to 88 weather there was a floor there or not I was sure of it. We got down to 5 and of course there was no walkway. I yelled at the original guy because he should have known that and told me. Then I panicked because of where the elevator was heading. I jumped out since the bottom floor was just a few feet away. I laid there a minute as the elavotor suddenly returned from it's 88 floor adventure to smoosh me. But the elavotor almost shrunk it seemed and I simply rolled out of the way in the stall. Then I woke up.

Please explain what these dreams mean? Any questions I'll be happy to answer.

Hi you need dreams to tell you what to do in sleep. In your childhood you were probably frightened by elevators and your subconscious uses your fear to control your sleep.
In your last dream you were probably sleeping in a bad sleeping position and needed to turn over.
In the second, you needed to wake up because you felt wet with your period.
The first dream uses the unusal behaviour of you mum to put some annoyance in your dream to wake you.
As you see, dreams are always doing a certain task in the sleep.
Cheers wolfjk

Elevators show us the ups and downs of life. Your elevators are different indicating different mental states when you dreamed them. The hotels (living in Vegas at the time or not) are temporary: the pre-historic or futuristic hotel and elevators are dealing with issues of the future or dealing with more basic instincts such as shelter, food and sex.

The dolphins (not sure about the South Park association) are considrered very spiritual animals and not man-eating in any respect. Unless you were dreaming of someone spiritual that you trusted and they broke that trust I have no idea where that was leading.

Numbers in dreams are not my specialty and maybe someone else can jump in on them. I know enough to add up numbers and take it to the 1-9 catagories and 8 + 8 is 16 and 1+ 6 is seven and this number represent completeness and wholeness.

You were very good at your visual descrpition of your dreams but I did not pick up on what you were feeling (except your mom who was distant and was not normally in real life and that the horses were comforting but the ride was disorienting). So, please think about how you were feeling in the dreams and what was going on when you had them. For example when you moved from Vegas to Dallas and the pre-historic dream you were getting your bearings. . .shelter (from work to home to the grocery store etc.) and this may be why you dreamed how you did.

The elevators moving in different directions was interesting. ..I am thinking that it would refer to thinking outside the box. Not using the usual solutions to situations. I have had these type of elevator dreams too and I would be interested in learning what others' have to say about this.

Hope this helped!!

I really appreciate the input. To clarify, in the dream with the dolphins I wasn't on my period. But in the dream I was.

I've been having dreams of elevators that go in all kinds of directions for years. Only lately have they gotten really strange in the settings they're in. And that could have something to do with my move, except the first one started before I was even considering a move. In my usual elevator dream (the 1st one) I always feel very anxious and frustrated. It got so bad that I'd actually get anxiety attacks in real elevators. But I wouldn't call them nightmares. More like just really frustrating dreams. The last 3 are the only ones where I end up not taking the elevator ride. Where I give up or don't go, or wake up before hand. And that's not normal. It's like I've taken concious control of my dream and refuse to go on them. And that worries me. I've always gotten on the elevator and eventually found my out no matter how much the ride scared me. So I don't know why I'm suddenly letting myself get stuck and not trying.

Oh and also, the dolphins weren't normal dolphins. They looked half man. I don't know if that was clear. And I'm pretty sure I had just found out that my boyfriend cheated on me when I had that dream so the betrayal thing fits. But it ended with me chatting it up with one of the dolphin man things after I spent what felt like hours hiding from them. My dreams often end non confrontationally almost anti-climactic.

This dream/s show a particular attribute of your persona, having to do with a lack of control of the direction that you take in life. You feel a definite need to get in touch with you senses (to gain a better perspective and insight of the person that you have become )...this is why you look for floor five (all five senses). This dream explores the notion that you are determined to gain a better understanding of the person that you are and how you became that person.

There is a hint that somehow you are one who tries to nurture or please close friends and family (and or associates) and somehow this zaps your resources. This aspect of you is taken advantage of and has hindered your growth in some way. This same aspect applies to a close interpersonal or even intimate situation.

Hi =lulu,
Your reply shows that you are indeed nervous when using elevators. Perhaps the best course for you would be to to read up on the tecnical details, safety aspects and use.

Your subconscious creates the dream according to your needs in that particular sleep. It uses artistic freedom as you can see from your own dream.
In a nights sleep your dreams move you about, change your sleeping positions many times. When you take up a comfortable sleeping position your dreams become more peaceful and you feel the anticlimax; the man eater becomes a lady killer!
I do not go along with idea that your dreams have any abstract meaning regarding your career or personal life. Dreams are strictly utilitarian.
Cheers Wolfjk
