Question Tired of these dreams.

Let me start by saying that I am the kind of person that has very, very vivid dreams almost every night. I dream about all sorts of things, and I almost always LOVE remembering my dreams, no matter how odd or disturbing they may be. I understand that dreams are unpredictable and I usually get great pleasure from my dreams.
However, for the past two weeks, I have been constantly dreaming of my ex boyfriend. Background: We were together three years, broke up a year and a half ago. Don't really talk much, he has a serious girlfriend, and I've had a serious-ish relationship since he and I broke up.
When we initially broke up, I dreamt about him fairly often. This makes sense to me. However, since I haven't seen him or spoken to him in two months, I don't understand why all of a sudden he is popping up in my dreams, every damn night. In these dreams, he is professing his undying love for me, saying things are over with the other girl, and I'm the only one for him. And in the dream, I am completely, deliriously happy to hear these things. I've never had such sappy, cliched, obvious dreams before, you know what I mean? I guess I'm just looking for some meaning other than the obvious, because I really don't want to think that I subconsciously want to hear those things from him. Any advice on how to make these damn dreams stop would be fabulous, as they are driving me to the point of wanting to email him, which would just open a big, nasty can of worms.
Sorry this is slightly mean and rambling, any insight is greatly appreciated!!!

Hi Alice (in-wonderland
I suppose you heard about wishful thinking? Wash him out of your hair and embark on a more serious relationship or play the field! that might change your dreams. However your subconscious may sometimes bring back the bitter taste of rejection when the need arises for a strong dream.
As for remembering dreams? A healthy individual without drug use or medicines should remember only occasional dreams that are caused by unusual things happening in sleep or in daily life. Lovers dream a lot, so do crazy people! People with some chronic pain or illness need dreams to divert them from pain and misfortune. However at least one dream per sleep is absolutely necessary for all of us: the waking dream!.
Cheers Wolfjk

Many dreams about exs will relate not so much to that relationship but to how you feel in general about relationships. If good things happen in the dream it shows that you are probably gettinbg over things. Bad things may refer to continued hurt and bitterness

------------------------
Dreams compare one thing to another. So do not be surprised if a dream about one thing turns out to be a dream about something entirely different. In fact you should expect a dream to be about something entirely different. After all a dream compares one thing to another. You would not expect a poem to use a line like "that beautiful sunrise was like a beautiful sunrise". Such a poem would clearly be ridiculous. A dream will use a metaphor to express its feelings.
