Default My Sister's Dream...

I have an eight year old little sister and for the past two weeks she's been having awful dreams. I also remember when I was about eight years old, for almost a whole month I had these horrible dreams, almost the close to the same as hers.

One of the dreams that she could remember was two nights ago. She logged it for me.

"Last night I had a horrible dream. There was a lady, I think she had blonde hair, and blue-grey eyes, and she wore a red dress. She was very skinny and her finger nails were very long. She came to our door, and I told my parents not to answer it...but my dream parents (Who were not our real mummy and daddy) answered it anyway. When they opened the door she was there, but now her dress was gold. She wore tall shoes and had something in her hand, but I can't remember. There was a truck in the middle of a street with a few other people in it, but I don't remember how many. I think the truck was green, and when I looked back at the lady one of her eyes became a button, a black button, and she was talking to mummy now. She and my daddy from the dream walked into the truck and started crying. I tried to close the door, but it shrunk, and would not close and lock. I started crying too, but I did not know why, and the lady (who was not named) took me and my sister in the truck to a muddy place. It had a tall fence, just like jail, and she threw my sister and me into the mud and we walked into this room...and then I woke up

We decided that she might have been thinking about the Holocaust before going to bed, but since she's been having the same dreams and I had ones close to it, I'm not positive... could someone please try to help my sister and I to understand what this dream means?

Hi,
Children often have nightmares. The above dream could have been causedby some problems at school. My guess is that she does not like one of her school teachers. There is also some pressure on kids to do well, and there are tests all over the place.
The dream could have been caused by a food allergy, upset stomach or a fever. However if she has been having bad dreams for some time, they are more likely been caused by pressure or tension in school.
Cheers Wolfjk
BTW, Dreams are an essential part life and happen all the time, but it is only those that are caused by unusual circumstances we remember.

well you could try a dream catcher. I have no idea if these work. But the mind can get stuck in a rut. It is very suggestive and once we think we are going to have nightmares then we may get them

------------------------

Dreams deal with extremes. If you truly understood the meaning of your dream it may be quite negative. We are our own worst judge. We try to detect signals coming from other people. Do people feel we are not cool or incompetent? The dream mind is often very harsh and honest. It tells us things that we do not like to admit to ourselves. It tells us things that we fear. Its worries about how others are seeing us. It’s a big harsh dose of reality.

Yet the dream mind also heads in the other direction. It captures our fantasies and positive feelings. Sometimes you wake up in a positive mood and feel that you are going to tackle a task in a particular way. You are invigorated and positive. Dreams then help motivate us. But often if we go too far in one direction our dreams tell us to cool down and not get carried away. This makes sense really. The dream mind then explores feelings connected with our judgment. We need to motivate ourselves but we also need to be realistic.

I take it that you are not a Christian. It sounds as if you daughter is experiencing lucid dreams. You are fully aware that a child's imagination is malleable and fertile and while it is understandable such dreams may concern you my suggestion is that you do not have much to fear as she will grow out of them. I would be hesitant to take her to a dream therapist as it may exacerbated her situation and create a problem where none is existing. Share her dreams with her and listen to them as if she were telling you a fairy story and discuss her dream as if it were a fairy story. Avoid displaying any concern which is likely to be transferred to her unwittingly causing her to feel that there is something wrong with her. She sounds like a normal, healthy, and bright child who has a vivid imagination. Make her feel normal!

My apologies for the oversight of mistaking your sister as your daughter.
