Hi,
This is my first posting to this board. I just slept a couple of hours this afternoon, something I almost never do, and for that reason I was woken up during a dream and could remember most of it, something that also rarely happens to me. The dream was a bit disturbing. In the dream I appear to be living in a kind of shared accommodation together with some members of my family from when I grew up, possibly my sister but the others seemed fictional, and some friends, inside a larger complex of luxury flats, all part of a larger hotel/restaurant complex. I left my room earlier in something of a mess, nothing serious, but when I come back I see that everything is in beautiful order and some of the people I'm living with have decided to clean up my mess on my bookshelves and drawers and desk etc. Unfortunately I notice a lot of my stuff is missing to make room for the "order". One thing I find missing is a Hans Christian Andersen book of fairy tales that I've had since I was a small child. This causes me to freak out big time. I shout and yell about wanting my stuff back and everybody better get working on getting my room back to its previous state. Since nobody seems to own up to having done it, I totally lose it at that point. I put on (or I'm already wearing?) some boots with metal spikes under them and I start kicking in walls and destroying the plastering, the floors and the stair cases, in an almost superhuman acrobatic destructive frenzy whilst screaming to everyone they better start fixing my room before I destroy everything. Nothing seems to happen so I decide to go down the stairs into the main "hotel"/"casino hotel" complex. In my path I destroy everything I can see, throw expensive lamps, pick up large tables (I could never lift in real life) and throw across the rooms through windows, smash as many things I can, enter a well posh restaurant/dining area full of people drinking champagne and celebrating, I just start smashing all the glasses lined up on the bar and then start throwing glasses and other things through the room, people get scared, they don't exactly panic but they start leaving, nobody seems to challenge me at any point they just back off. Then I find some little glass (or metal?) container full of white powder, I think it's cocaine (I have never done drugs in RL), then I spread it out on my index finger and snort it, at first nothing happens but after some seconds I feel an extreme high like a boost of energy and carry on with superhuman strength on my destruction rampage... Shortly after I wake up. Well, good thing it was only a dream Just to put it into context, I have never been violent or destructive (well I've thrown a plate across the room on one occasion due to anger) but other than that the behaviour seemed to be quite out of character for me, and the drugs thing was also weird, I was full of glee when I found that cocaine and thought "yeah", when in real life I'd never take something like that (I've tried pot is the furthest I've done). So it was a bit strange to have this sort of dream in the middle of the day Any insights will be appreciated! Cheers D |

Although you are not one to show anger in the way that the dream has depicted the symbolism points to a temporary situation (something that is out of the norm, that you have been dealing with).
Consider that the dream is an overly dramatic parallel story line to something that has recently been dealt with in your waking life. It is likely characterizing your inner response to some change that you were not actively consulted about. Some decision was made (also possibly that you were under the influence perhaps alcohol) When you came back to reality (so to speak) you noticed that something had been done in your absence and aspects of the many personalities that make the total personality that you are, were disturbed. The bottom line is that this dream brings awareness of how upset you can be when you are in that state of mind. sailrmc |

Hi Psydreamer,
Quote:
Another factor in dreams is the sleeping position. If you go to sleep in an uncomfortable sleeping position, when you feel discomfort or pain the dream kicks in and wakes you up. These dreams are usually violent. Quote:

Both of these seem to hit the mark pretty well. Sailrmc, I've just lost my job since my office is closing down and I'm trying to find a new one, so I guess that would create the situation where I wasn't consulted you are talking about. And wolfjk, yes this situation has caused me some stress, and when I was a teenager (sadly over 18 years ago) I always had fights with my parents about the state of my room.
Pretty good stuff Cheers, D |
