Hi everyone,
I keep having different dreams where I use my full name: first, maiden, and married whenever I introduce myself in front of others. I also have seen my maiden and maried names hyphenated in print. (on my classroom door.) In real life, I no longer use my maiden name. I've been happily married for 12 years. I don't know if this has anything to do with this, but, I keep having dreams about my childhood house. In my dreams, I am very emotional about wanting to go inside to see what it looks like now...25 years later. Any ideas are appreciated!

Its very diffiuclt to understand short dreams in general. I do belive that all dreams mean something in some way. Most dreams for me link to how the mind stores ideas and feelings about our current emotins. But its all very complicated when you start interpreting the dreams of others.
There are times when your maiden name is important. It may refer to a situation where someone else thinks that you are single. Dreams are not just about your feelings they refer to moments when others judge you... its about how you want them to see you. Not sure what the childhood house could mean. It could link to a moment which reminds you of childhood. Maybe seeing a child the day before... ------------------ One way of telling how vital dreams are is to study people who are deprived of sleep and dreams.Sleep deprivation is very dangerous if it continues for extended periods. If you are deprived of sleep for several days then you will slip into madness. The reason for this is that sleep and dreams are linked to vital brain functions. During the day we store up new thoughts and experiences within short term memory blocks. So if we are deprived sleep these become overloaded. The mind has no more space to store new feelings so these are merely forgotten. During sleep vital brain waves emerge. Beta waves and theta waves are only ever detected within the brain at night. These help us process through those new feelings and experiences stored in short term memory. We integrate these new feelings into long term memory blocks. So if you do not sleep then you will not be updating your thoughts. You will not be building a bigger picture. I am going to be bit wordy here because I believe that your dream is a vital building block in our ability to evaluate...you will see what I mean.
Carl Jung is one that discusses "individuation" at length. First you might want to Google the term and get an idea at what this means. Your dream is instilling Individuation (very basically, it is establishing within you a sense of self). In reality we are all constantly at work trying to get a better idea of just who we are. Your dream explores this process of the mind. Much of the basis of "who we are" (Self) and how we see ourselves is first established in our childhood. The subconscious mind uses this theme as a baseline or reference to check our progress (in the department of Self Image) as we move through life. When our dreams deal with current issues in life, on an "as needed" basis, there is often a reference that takes us back to our childhood when we first dealt with such a concept. This a form of understanding that facilitates balance in our life, as I will explain below. Example: If once, we were successful in dealing with a difficult peer as a child our mind uses this knowledge in helping us deal with difficult peers in our life of present time. Sure, adjustments or modifications, are made through the years but childhood is so valid because it is a puristic and untarnished human approach that we use at this age (very basic response to stimulus). Our natural instincts and responses are brought out, at this age, and those instincts are ones that are continually dealt with, in some degree, as we interact with others of all ages, throughout our whole life. Let's face it, we are human, all of our lives, and often very childish issues are encountered from people of all ages. Back to your concern here...The way that the mind categorizes and files all real life events, including feelings and emotions about those events is so methodical. In an effort to explain this process I will use the following example. It is natural to refer to you at a certain period in your life but the name that you used at that perios. The mind classifies in this way as exemplified in your dream... This is you (your full name here) at early childhood...Along with the name that you were known by at that time, you have certain knowledge and an approach to life that is characteristic of the person you were. Your "self" (for this period in time is being documented in your subconscious mind) for future reference and your full name is the official ID. AS if to say this was Charlie then. In another file in the subconscious mind again you are classified for a different period in your life as, (your full name, we'll say your friends called you" Chuck" at this time of your life, so this would be your minds your reference point of the "Self" that you were at that particular time in life). You graduated from college with a PHD so this point of your life you are known as Charles Doe, PHD. so as to show the person you were at that age...this pattern replicates and another name change when you married so you "self" is referenced with your full name at that time in your life. These names are identites of the person that you were at that point in time. They make for good references. They show progress or lack there of as we go through life. I have seen this dream many times but not everyones mind specifically uses full names to convey individuation at intervals. Someone may identify with the hair style that they wore...or their height or even physical changes of their body. Your identify easily by name. Keeping this in mind... When your mind wishes to bring up events from your past (say that your friend on the playground punched you and you have never quite gotten over it). Let's say it is something that affects you to this day and on top of that your buddy at work shows signs of punching you out...the mind looks at your present day situation (In your case using your full name that you use now) it recognizes that there is some value in knowledge that you gained from such an interaction when you were CHUCK...it uses this symbolism to say...hey you have been in this situation before, Chuck, in fact there is some old baggage and or valuable information, that you carry with you about a similar early life situation when you were Chuck. It pulls from that, file, or period in life to allow for a full benefit of knowledge or either allow you to resolve the old feelings when you resolve your current issue. This explains the processes of the mind that relate to "self" that existed in different times in your life. The concept of individuation could be expressed as the person that you have evolved into using knowledge that you have accumulated as a result of living life. Why would the mind ever do this? A sense of self is really all that we have. We came into this world with nothing, and the only thing that we will leave with is the "person" (in spirit) that we have become. That person is held totally accountable for that which he as allowed himself to become. A sense of Self and Individuation is HUGE in the scheme of everything, would you not agree? I know...I get a bit wrapped up in detail. It does take time and effort on my part, but if just one person comes to a better understanding of who they are and how the subconscious mind helps in this process I have accomplished what I have set out to accomplish here. The subconscious is a tremendous gift to us all. It is mentor, best friend and support, onboard shrink, adviser, and watchtower. Through the awareness that it provides, if we only take the time to listen, we can and will be successful in all areas of this life which (depending on your personal beliefs) sets us up for a successful place in the next plane of existence. Specifically, your dream deals with the acceptance of your situation in life as depicted by the official ritual of you introducing yourself by that name (which you accept). The mind makes note of the official recognition and from that point on events, emotions, and feelings that are encountered in waking life are filed (by the subconscious mind) in the file using that name. It easily marks time for future reference. sailrmc |
