dream with the angel of death

My husband had a dream a day ago. It was very disturbing to us. He dreamt he got into an elevator with 3 other people and then a man walked in after him and said his name was Gabriel and asked them if they were ready. My husband asked him ready for what and Gabriel responded ready to go. Then all 5 of them start rising and my husband kept shouting he was not ready to go and he was lowered to the ground and then he woke up, terrified of course. I remember that Gabriel was the Angel of Death. What could this dream mean? My husband had a death in the family a week ago so I thought it could be maybe his anxiety over the death. Can anyone please advise? Thank you.

If I remember correctly, Gabriel is the angel that first signals the second coming of Christ among other things. I am certainly no one to quote the bible but I think I am on track here. The symbolism in this dream signifies that which will eventually come...namely our mortality.

One of the unconscious mind's duties, is to keep us aware of our mortality. More specifically, all through life it helps keep track of time by reminding us (via our dreams) how we are doing relative to where we are in our life. As we get progressively older it reminds of our eventual mortality with the purpose of keeping us aware... The recent events of death of those close to your husband are good incubators or prompts for the unconscious mind to remind him that his days are also numbered.

The mind is charged with the duty of mentoring and it does this through dreams. By reminding us of what me must face, it allows us to become prepared and less traumatized as we get closer to our final destination (on this planet).

well es I do think the dream is linked to the death in the family. The most important effect any death has on you is that it can remind you of your own mortality. So he is coming to terms with his own mortality. It suddenly brings it home to us - someone else dies and we start to realise that life does end.

Although Gabriel is not the Angel of Death, in your mind and that of your husband he is, therfore that is how he showed up, you are right, about the fact that your husband probably has had the recent death in your family on his mind, so when Gabriel asked if he was ready he responded with no and was lowered slowly to earth again.
He has nothing to worry about he made his decision to stay and God and the Angels will honour that decision.

Hi,
Death in the family always causes some stress. Stress causes tiredness and mental exhaustion and during these times the sleeper needs a strong dream to wake him.
We all need a waking dream but rarely remember it. Your husbands dream was simply one of these waking dreams that stuck in the memory.
He has nothing to worry about!
