Painful V shaped lines cut on my leg with a tattoo!!

I've been having really strange ones lately!

Several months ago in real life, one of my husband's female coworkers got a tatto on her ankle. I joked that I would too, and he said he wouldn't care. Really, I'd NEVER consider getting one, it's just not my style. (He knows that I wasn't serious, that's why he said he didn't care.)

Anyhow, last night, I dreamed that I wanted to get a tattoo. I was looking at a fairly big, intricate one for my upper arm. I knew that my husband wouldn't care.

The tattoo artist (in my dream, she was more of a hairstylist), took me into a room, that looked like an examining room in a doctor's office. I wanted the tattoo, but was too afraid to go through with it. SO instead, I decide to get a small one on my ankle, instead. I choose a trumpet with a music note because in real life, I'm a trumpet player.

The stylist comes in to get me ready. I lay down on my side on the examining table. She then proceeds to cut my right leg with what I think is a scalpel. There were 2 very straight cuts forming a V on my leg, with the point of the V on the site where the tattoo was to be placed. I was told it was how they line up and place the tattoo correctly. The cuts weren't very deep, but they were slightly bleeding and they stung quite badly. I had a friend with me in the dream who had longer cuts on her body to "line up" her tattoo. After the stylist cut me, she left the room for a while before returning to do the tattoo, though, I don't remember her actually doing the tattoo in my dream.

Then, I saw trumpet/music note the tattoo above my ankle. I can't remember how I really felt about it. I do remember thinking, "How will I explain this tattoo to the kids I teach when they see it?" I just couldn't understand why I had to be cut all the way down my leg.

A knife is a symbol of division and can mean a spiritual division.

A tattoo (on a spiritual level) can mean a group identity or something that has left an memorable impression.

The hairdresser represents a part of yourself that deals w/ self image and self esteem.

Could the V- shape actually be more like a triangle? The triangle symbolizes mind, body, and spirit.

If it points down then you may be seeking expression thru the physical.

Think of a tattoo as a kind of label that one wears, and in the context of the dream, it shows a strong belief or identity that the dreamer has. The fact that is is on your ankle shows that music is the path or direction that you have taken in life.

It would be interesting to know if you are right or left handed in waking life. A more intricate understanding of the meaning or message that the dream is intended to convey is based on which ankle the tattoo appears.

If the tattoo appears of the opposite of the dominant side it would show that your subconscious mind (same as dreaming mind), accepts your decision to participate in the profession that you are in, however, it indicates that you are examining or have examined this direction in your life. it appears as if you are a teacher and musician to the core. You are hooked and you accept it!!

On the other hand, if it appears on the dominant side (if you are right handed and the tattoo appers on the right leg)...It would show that your choice of professions was more of a conscious commitment (one born of the waking mind).
The notion being explored in this case would be similar to the one above but it would tend to show more of a position of uncertainty as to your decision to be a music/instructor. As well the long cut would also be an interrogatory much like I have stated above...but one coming from your conscious mind. This would take more of a meaning such as... I have just had a bad day. Am I sure this is what I want to do in life?

Either way you got the tattoo and you have examined your life path and you are committed to that which you have chosen.

Why would you ever have such a dream?

The mind re-addresses (on a semi regular basis) the decisions that we make in life. It is one of the evaluation processes that help us to better understand, if we are happy, or not. Are we going the right direction to allow for success and happiness?

Sailrmc, it's interesting that you see what you did. I am left handed,(Opposite of the side of the tattoo) and having a career in music was always my dream. I accept my path in life.
Sometimes, I do contemplate my decision, but everytime I think about doing something different, my heart goes back to what I do now. (changing my mind about the original tattoo...I wasn't comfortable with a big one on my arm.)
My biggest dilemma now is possibly changing jobs, but in the same career.
