HI everyone,
I'm hoping to gain some new perspectives about these dreams. I appreciate your help! Before I go into my dreams, here's some background. I will soon be at a crossroad in my career. I'm not sure whether it will be this year, or within the next couple of years. I teach music at a school that I'm pretty happy at, but the past couple of years have been tougher than usual because of budget and staff cuts. Each school year, I'm uncetain as to what my exact assignment will be. A year ago, a colleague, and former teacher of mine asked me if I would apply for her job when she retires. (She teaches in the town I live in, and she has my children.) I was flattered that she thought so highly of me, and the thought of being closer to home and have the same schedule as my kids, is very tempting. The job, however, would be demanding.) The only thing is, she wasn't sure when she would be retiring. Lately, I've been having dreams I know are linked to this situation. I keep dreaming of being a student in high school again, and my schedule is all messed up. For some reason, I dream that I keep missing gym and swimming class because my schedule is confusing. I do not know if I can graduate without them. In one dream, that was similar, I dreamed that I was walking by some classrooms that said "health" class on the doors. I then walk by the gym, and find myself in gym class. Again, I accidentally miss swimming, but I know I should go. I see the swim coach, who is drinking, and wants to talk alone with me. I get nervous and say, "I can't, I must get to my band rehearsal." I'm then dressed like a teacher in a skirt and high heals. I go into the band room, and find the kids getting ready. I go into the band teacher's office, and find my colleague I mentioned earlier, on a beach, in a lounge chair, with a drink in her hand, having her hair dyed. I went out to teach, but felt very unorganized, overwhelmed, and incompetent. Last night, I dreamed that I was in the school that I really graduated from. I walked into the auditorium, that was being set up for a chorus concert. I saw my old chorus teacher. The chorus was filing in, when the teacher told me it was up to me to introduce the program. I was startled, but took the microphone. I introduced myself, "Hello, my name is {first, maiden, married name}. I am a {year} graduate of {name of hs}. I am pleased to be a part of this concert. {name of HS} has a very strong music program, and I am proud to be a part of it." (Note, I NEVER go by my maiden name anymore in real life.) I go back to the chorus, but they are now all mixed up, and unorganized. The teacher starts conducting. The kids do not know the songs, because they didn't practice. The lyrics are on a tv screen off to the side. The songs were all from the 1980's, and I'm the only one who knows them. My daughter then comes, and says she can lead me to the music room. I follow her, but I am no longer at my alma mater, but at my daughter's school. SHe goes in a round about way, but we make it to the music room. I'm sorry this is long, but it's been bugging me. I have a good idea what it all means, but sometimes many of you give me new perspectives. I appreciate any ideas you may have!!!! I wish you peace, Bright Dreamer |

It sounds like this career is something you would like to do, but you are getting mixed messages from your dreams. The key things that I noticed reading your dreams are "disorganized", a classroom door with "health" on it, and "swimming".
My wife is a teacher and I know how dedicated you need to be to do a good job. I also know that you have to take care of yourself (health), be prepared and organized and plan well. Swimming isn't a bad sign, it's better than drowning, and you keep your head above water! Good Luck! |
