Default Taking Care of 28 Kittens, All of the Black Ones Drown

I haven't been here for a long time because it has been a while since I have had a strange and upsetting dream. I've tried looking up some meanings, but putting it all together doesn't make the least bit of sense to me, so I decided to get some help from the experts!

Here's the dream:

-----

I am back at my parents' house in England. I have a long-haired calico cat with me. She is pregnant.

The cat gives birth to an unusually large number of kittens all in different colours: some are calico like her, some ginger tabbies, brown tabbies, white, white and ginger, and black. Most are black (about a third). They are all very tiny because of the large litter and are about the same size as mice. However, they come out with their eyes open and already able to move around like much older kittens.

I spend the entire day alone in the kitchen of my parents' house taking care of these kittens. I am afraid of them getting sick from being all wet at birth, so I put them in the oven. To dream me this seemed like a good idea. LOL The oven is off, but still warm enough to dry them off without injuring them. Despite that, I sat in front of the oven for hours staring at the kittens in case they got hurt.

I feed them and groom them while the mother watches and before I know it it is evening. I am worried they will wander off in the night and get hurt so I start to put the kittens in little boxes with holes that fit inside bigger hole-filled baskets. While I am doing this I count the kittens and discover there are 28 of them. I stack the baskets on the kitchen counter and leave them there while I go to sleep.

The next morning I wake up and immediately go to the baskets in the kitchen. The first layer of boxes contains kittens that are fast asleep, their tiny chests moving up and down. The second layer also contains sleeping kittens, curled up together. I look at the third layer where I kept all the black kittens and I discover the entire layer has somehow flooded with water. The black kittens are lying there soaked and not moving. I start to cry and pick up one tiny, limp kitten. It feels still and cold. I really begin to sob as I carry it to the table and lie it down there. I cry harder and harder until everything is blurry as I walk back to pick up more drowned black kittens from the bottom basket.

-----

The dream ended here and I woke up feeling very sad. I looked up some meanings and it basically tells me kittens/cats are a bad sign, but black cats are good luck. I read that kittens means I want babies (I don't). Then I also read seeing ginger cats (the ginger tabbies) means you will have a fantastic relationship and a good life. After that I read the number 28 means I will fall so in love with someone I will risk losing them. It doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone please help?

Well sometimes a symbol is a symbol. Yet other times its is not. Kittens and cats aere not easy to interpret. You have to read the dream as a whole. I think dreams often reflect some real life situation where there is some similar situation or theme. Here you are showing great care and attention to look after these kittens. LKook for something over which you took great care abnd attention.

Dreams really just often follow reality. Look for the important issues anmd little moments when you followed some new intuition.

was there some great moment of sadness around the time of the dream. A little moment when you felt sad. Maybe that is connected to the dream. They are often difficult to explian. often its best to learn how dreams work. try these dream studies on my site

Many dreams can capture very immediate emotions. If you are feeling despreate when you wake up and you need to immediately go to the toilet then its likely that the dream links to that immediate urge. The dream will in some way capture the urgency and immediate nature of your situation. The dream mind will not be able to concentrate on anything else. Its simply caught up in the moment. The following page details several such dreams.

Take everything I say with a very healthy dose of skepticm. I'm going to offer you two different interpretations. If I had to wager, I'd place all my money on the first interpretation.

Quote:
I have a long-haired calico cat with me. She is pregnant.
I know that you said that you don't want kids . . . still, I think the cat represents your female power and part of that power is motherhood. This dream is about you becoming a mother.

Note: I'm talking like I know this for a fact--I don't--so please don't freak. I'm just sharing my very untrustworthy interpretation of the symbols I see in your dream.

Quote:
The cat gives birth to an unusually large number of kittens all in different colours: some are calico like her, some ginger tabbies, brown tabbies, white, white and ginger, and black.
The number of kittens doesn't symbolize the number of children (((big sigh of relief))). But, the variation in coloring symbolizes that each child you have will bring you some troubles, joy, happiness and fear--pretty much like all children do. The ginger color symbolizes that you will have a very good relationship with your children.

Quote:
Most are black (about a third). They are all very tiny because of the large litter and are about the same size as mice. However, they come out with their eyes open and already able to move around like much older kittens.
At this point in the dream the kittens are already born, but symbolically speaking . . . they are not . . . symbolized by the fact that you keep them warm in the oven.

Quote:
I spend the entire day alone in the kitchen of my parents' house taking care of these kittens. I am afraid of them getting sick from being all wet at birth, so I put them in the oven. To dream me this seemed like a good idea. LOL The oven is off, but still warm enough to dry them off without injuring them. Despite that, I sat in front of the oven for hours staring at the kittens in case they got hurt. I feed them and groom them while the mother watches and before I know it it is evening.
Ever here the phrase . . . a bun in the oven? You are keeping the kittens in a warm oven? The oven is your womb and the kittens/buns are the babies. You sitting in front of the oven for hours represents the anxious period between conception and giving birth. You are worried about them getting hurt . . . you'll be an anxious, diligent and loving mother. Very protective.

You said you spend the "entire day alone in the kitchen" . . . this might indicate the you feel alone in your burden. Maybe you feel like even among family and friends, you're in the life alone. In pregnancy it will be no different--you'll carry the responsibility solely on your shoulders and nobody will be there to help you. You're used to having to do everything yourself, but you'd prefer it not to be that way.

Quote:
I am worried they will wander off in the night and get hurt so I start to put the kittens in little boxes with holes that fit inside bigger hole-filled baskets. While I am doing this I count the kittens and discover there are 28 of them. I stack the baskets on the kitchen counter and leave them there while I go to sleep.
You divide the kittens into three boxes and as you are doing so, you count 28kittens. 28 represents the menstrual cycle. The boxes represent the containment of the cycle. There are three boxes, each representing a separate time period reserved for the potential of giving birth.

Quote:
The next morning I wake up and immediately go to the baskets in the kitchen. The first layer of boxes contains kittens that are fast asleep, their tiny chests moving up and down. The second layer also contains sleeping kittens, curled up together.
This represents two successful births, resulting in peaceful and contented children.

Quote:
I look at the third layer where I kept all the black kittens and I discover the entire layer has somehow flooded with water. The black kittens are lying there soaked and not moving.
I don't know if the black kittens represent a miscarriage, abortion or simply lost opportunity due to your fears of having children. But, since the box of black cats are on the bottom of the stack, I'd guess that this represents the place where the first pregancy took place or could have taken place, but something prevented it from happening.

Quote:
I start to cry and pick up one tiny, limp kitten. It feels still and cold. I really begin to sob as I carry it to the table and lie it down there. I cry harder and harder until everything is blurry as I walk back to pick up more drowned black kittens from the bottom basket.
You pick it up and describe how it feels, indicating a need to touch connect with your fears and to face your feelings. Cold -- might indicate the freezing of emotions. Maybe there is something you haven't come to terms with and it is like a block of ice within you, needing to melt, before you can let it go. You pick up more drowned kittens from the bottom of the basket. The bottom represents the depths of your wound and your numerous fears surrounding it.

Quote:
The dream ended here and I woke up feeling very sad.
I went into detail about the bottom box. But, remember, there were two other boxes where the kittens were safe, snug and content. The other two boxes represent child two and three. After the tears, there will be rejoicing.

Since, you're not planning on having kids, I wouldn't expect you to take this interpretion too seriously. And, please don't, because I'm probably wrong about these things more often than I'm right.

Second possible interpretation:

OK, now that I've mentioned children and made you nervous , I'm offering an alternative interpretation. The kittens may not represent children at all, but your hopes and dreams. The pregnant cat at the beginning may represent that you are about to give birth to certain hopes and ambitions. The black ones that die represent dreams that never come true. The kittens that are sleeping in the boxes are dreams that have "gone to sleep", but they're not dead. There are many kittens, but only three boxes, so I'd say that you have three big goals/desires in life, that effect a lot of other componants of your life. It seems like none of your big dreams are going to work out--but the kittens are not dead--just sleeping, so there is still some hope. But, "sleeping" makes it seem as if you are not doing anything to try to acheive them. The fact that your dreams are in boxes with air-holes, may indicate that you keep your hopes and dreams hidden from the world (but, I'm still leaning heavily toward the first interpretation) .
