my wife and i recently returned from our first trip to china, and since then (4 nights now) i have been having a recurring boat dream. In the dream, i have the sense that the boat is just a ferry type vessle for a short crossing, however there are cabins for sleeping which i invariably end up in. There is no real sense of movement and the sleeping cabins are dark as though it were night time. There are other people in the boat, though i dont really have contact with them. however, there is a sense of lack or privacy.
can anyone offer some insight? thanks |

One approach to dreams is to view them as trying to balance out and complete the overall outlook of the ego which sometimes tends to become too restricted regarding issues that have arisen in day to day life.
In order to accurately interpret what this compensation might be, it’s usually best to have a lot of background information about the dreamer along with the spontaneous thoughts, memories, and feelings about each image in the dream. However, without this information, a few tentative ideas can still be provided as based on some fairly consistent dream motifs. For example, a general rule is that a dream repeats itself when it is important for the person to understand a certain situation or problem. Dreams use metaphors and analogies to express their meaning, so it’s likely that the ferry which is a non-individual mover of groups of people suggests a generally collective viewpoint of some kind as opposed to a more individual one. A crossing suggests the need to reach a new understanding or outlook, but this is stalled for some reasont (no feeling of movement). The cabins for sleeping point to the idea that when a person is asleep, he/she is “unconscious” and this idea is reinforced by the fact that it is dark, also usually a symbol representing unconsciousness and being unaware of something. It’s possible that the other people and the lack of privacy might symbolize something like annoying feelings of underlying guilt or some other emotion about not facing up to some issue, and these may have been lately popping into consciousness unannounced for example. Since the dreams started after your return from China, it looks like some realization, insight or feeling etc. that was stimulated by your visit there is being held down for some reason. You could try writing down what comes to mind about the ferry, the crossing, the cabins, the people etc. Then by sifting through what emerges, certain interconnected themes should become evident to help clarify the specific meaning of your dream. If you hit upon the correct interpretation, then the dream should stop repeating in its current form although there might be follow-up dreams to help clarify the issue further. I hope that this brief outline will help in some way to decipher the personal message of your dream. Last edited by Athanor : 09-19-2007 at 12:49 PM. |

Hi,
Being on a boat means working for the government, if it was moving. If the boatwas still means you will remain for a year or so in another travel. Good luck.
