Any help on interpreting my dream?

Last night I had a dream that totally freaked me out, I had to literally stay awake for a hour to get it out of my mind.
I am not sure if past events made me dream it or not.
In the past month, I live in an apartment complex on the second floor, well the front office was broken into (someone busted the window out) that is on the first floor.
I was told that someone got jumped in front of the building.
A lady had a brick thrown threw her windshield of her car.
Most recently someone was robbed by knife right behing the building twenty minutes before we left.
OK NOW MY DREAM:
I was in a place in a town that I have never been too.
First off I was in a place surrounded by fences, (like you have on a basketball court), there was alot of people around just talking, hanging out, walking around.
People kept saying that a girl was missing.
I got in a car with my husband, we were driving out of there and as I glanced to my side I saw two women laying another woman on the ground, they in turn started to wrap her in fence (she was dead).
It appeared that noone was paying any attention to these woman doing this.
I called 911 on my phone, hung up as we passed a trail of police on the road going to the scene.
We drove to a store, a girl I went to high school with parked next to us and went inside the store, she was talking to someone on her cell phone. I heard her say "I am hurrying in the store and getting out of here, I am scared".
I was too afraid to get out of the car after hearing her say this so we left.
We went to a house, went into a room so I could try to find a friends phone number to call her, however I couldnt find it in my phone for anything.
A group of hysterical people came in the room, they were all terrified.
From hearing their conversations they too had seen the women laying the dead woman's body down but were afraid to say anything.
My husband told me to leave town so I would be safe, he would follow soon enough, he told me that he could take care of himself but he wanted me out of harm.
I got into the back seat of a car, there was two other woman in the car, one I went to junior high with and was good friends with back then, the other I had never seen before in my life.
A group of people came running from a building, I overheard someone say "there are two more dead bodies".
I asked the girl who was driving, "did you check the trunk of your car to make sure noone is in the trunk?"
She said, "No, it should be ok because before they come after you, you get a phone call"
As she said that my cell phone rang.
I jumped out of the car, started to run.
She got out a butter knife and was gonna try to stab me with it as a guy came up and told her to put it down because she was on camera, it was pointless.
She tried to stab me with it, somewhere I had gotten a butter knife too and self defense took her down with it.
The other girl came up and tried to stab me with hers so I had to in turn use self defense again to save my life.

I tried to get out of the dream at this point.
Thought I was fine and dreamed again but this time it had a different outcome.

This time in the car, they had the child locks on the backdoors and both tried to take me out with the butter knifes, my husband had given me a gun for protection if I needed it so I used it.

This is where I woke up and refused to go back to sleep because it scared me bad.....
I dont understand what the dream meant (I do know someone in protection for witnessing a murder but I dont know if that would have something to do with my dream either).
I am not sure if my subconcious made me dream this because I am afraid to come and go at my apartment complex, fearing that someone might harm me or my children (my children were no where in my dream) by weapon or just words.
I attend night college so two days a week I have to come home late.
We have been looking for another place to move too so I dont have to feel unsafe coming and leaving and being at home alone with the kids.

ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS ON WHY I DREAMED THIS?
I am the type of person that would never hurt anyone, so why would I dream this? Self defense or not, I couldnt picture myself harming someone to save myself.
