Shot in the head and died

I dreamt a close friend of mine was shot in the back of the head and died. I was running away from people who were trying to hurt me, then i saw my friend waiting for me in a garden so he could take me home. I got in the car on time, but they got him and shot him before he could get into the car. They pulled me out of the car, but said they weren't going to shoot me. He died, i didn't die.

what could this mean?

Very often, "running away" describes an effort to escape some condition or source of torment in the dreamer's life.
