Hi everyone,
I need a little interpretation help. BACKGROUND: In Sept 2006, a friend introduced me to his cousin who moved to NY to get his PhD at Columbia. Since I am also a doctoral student at Columbia in a similar field, my friend thought we would make a good couple. They are both from Guinea, West African and I am of Afro-Caribbean descent. When we met we immediately hit it off and the first few months were WONDERFUL! We spoke everyday, he walked me to class, brought me gifts, etc. Then things got complicated. He started to pull back and said things like: relationships end and said we should not get too serious right now. It is common in their culture to enter arranged marriages and they don’t like outsiders- which I am. The next several months have been confusing, he loves me, wants to spend time with me but holds back when it comes to kissing, etc. He told my friend he wants to marry me and has never met a woman like me before but he really has to be sure about his decision because he knows they will be upset at him. Yet, my friend continually introduces me to their family members who live in NY as my new love’s future wife! I became more and more frustrated about the situation and began to complain. This has pushed us apart somewhat. We speak but not everyday and we haven't gotten together in a month. THE DREAM: A couple of months ago I had a dream that I was standing in a beautiful village in Guinea. I was with my sister and my friend (the one who introduced us). We were standing upon a small hill looking onto a village. It had nice homes, green grass and beautiful palm trees (no other vegetation was present). I said to my friend that Guinea was absolutely beautiful and it reminded me of my island home Antigua. Directly in front of us was a white house and my new love was coming in and out performing tasks in haste. We were apparently waiting for him because my sister said: What is taking him so long? I sighed and said : I don't know. In the next scene of the dream, my sister and I were sitting down in a room I guess because there was no sun. She was sitting to my left. When I looked to the right I say a long line of men as far as they eye could see and I knew they were the men of my new love’s family. I was overwhelmed by the site. I could not see faces and they were dressed in grey. One by one they came upon us and shook our hands saying: Nice to meet you and we responded in the same way. I did not look up to see their faces all I could see were their hands reaching for mine. Then the last man on the line was in full color and I looked up and saw his face. He was a slim, dark-skinned African man with regal features and very handsome. He was wearing a light blue African garment. In the dream I knew him, I had met him before, he was my new love’s father. He reached for my hand and said nice seeing you again and I responded in the same way. He then said you are still beautiful and I said thank you. He then shook my sister’s hand and moved on and the dream ended. THE MOST INTERESTING THING: His father dies in 2002! I have never met this man in my life, but in the dream I knew him! So I am wondering if all of the men that greeted us were his ancestors? I have not gotten a good interpretation. Thanks |
