An owl is an ambiguous symbol.
1) It was the emblem of Athena the Greek Goddess of Wisdom. Thus, it can mean wisdom, judgement, and planning or strategy. 2) It is a creature of the night, enigmatic and secretive. 3) It is a bird of prey, hunting small and vulnerable creatures. Finding and exploiting weakness. In this case in that poor Siamese. It is a symbol of death. A cat is also ambiguous: 1) The Egyptians worshipped the Goddess Bast. It had two sides - the devious and secretive. And the helpful, loyal and loving. Like human nature, capricious, unpredictable and contradictory. 2) It is also predatory, preying on creatures weaker and more defenceless than itself. 3) In dreams it can represent the sensual side of humans. Especially women. The Egyptians admired the animal for its elegance - sleek lines and easy movement. It makes everything appear effortless. 3) It can be a lucky omen. The black cat. Nine lives, and always lands on its feet, no matter what happens. Maybe luck isn't running your way - hence the snatched cat? Your dream is complex, and could mean a variety of things....

Longtime symbolism include death; spiritual darkness. Related activities of the night sexual or otherwise, it therefore shares some of the same symbolism as night or moon.
It is the symbol of Athena (goddess of learning), it can relate to Wise Old Man archetypes. Some of our idioms suggest its relationship to wisdom or balancing intellect or judgement against pure emotion (wise as an owl) and to craftiness. See birds, moon, Wise Old man. |
